What film did you watch last night?

Triangle, been a good few years since I last watched this so had forgotten some of the minor details.

Timelooping so yes there's bound to be some errors/flaws but one of the better films on for this genre, throughly enjoyed it again 8/10.

The shape of water, very beautifully shot, great cinematography and wonderful style. But Christ it is such a dull film, very boring and predictable story. It’s essentially a combination of Splash and Free Willy.

Maybe it was a little predictable but I certainly wouldn't call it dull. Guess it depends on what sort of film you like though.

Personally I really enjoyed shape of water.

Spectral 6/10

It felt like the bare bones of a story. There was a lot of potential to be explored but by skimming the surface it was just an action film rather than anything with a deeper plot. I've seen a lot worse, and it's nice that we get these sci-fi originals, but it's a shame that it didn't delve deeper into the backstory of the whole thing.

Batman Returns - starts well then progressively gets weaker. Creepy themes are good but hit and miss execution. The shots of the abandoned zoo are the best thing in it. Watchable.

6/10

Made in Britain. Quite powerful stuff. I wasn't a bad kid when that age but it'skind of is like a blast from the past in some regards.

Watch it here.

Annihilation

Loved almost every second of it. Big, bold, ballsy Science Fiction that leaves you pondering it's MANY themes and plot points. Really excited to see where Alex Garland goes next, now we know he's not a one trick pony.

Re-Animator

Well, I didn't think I could love a movie as much as I love Brazil, yet here we are...

Gorey, hilarious, well paced and fun. I can't believe it's taken me this long to watch it!

I, Tonya

I liked it! Perhaps one of the weaker 'set piece' movies of the year so far, but it's still good fun. Had me laughing and cringing in all the appropriate places.

Lady Bird

A very poignant movie about adolescents, for someone my age Lady Bird (Ronan's character) would almost be how old I was back in 2002 when the movie was set. It brings back not only memories of the period, the music, the Iraq War but what really hits home is the script's little detail of family dynamics, I can see myself as Christine, the fights that she has with her mum I had very similar ones with my father. Wanting to go far away at University. Now years later appreciating where i am from. It totally captures the pain of being a teenager, the sense of finding out who you are.

It is an amazing first screenplay, it reminds me of Richard Linklater's work in a lot of ways.

Love it.

Just seen it myself, I agree. Great coming of age film, fantastic script, funny in parts and relatable, especially given that I was 15/16 as well when it was set.

Saoirse Ronan is simply excellent, loved her in Lovely Bones. One day she’ll get an Oscar, she deserves one.

Lady Bird 9/10

Tried to watch Lost City of Z last night. Switched off after half hour. Found it a total disjointed borefest.

I thought that was quite good, watched it a couple of times now, I'd give it maybe a 6/10.

I'd maybe give it another chance sometime when you've got nowt else to watch. :)
