What film did you watch last night?

Creed II.

Better than the first one. I dunno, I love the old Rocky movies, particularly 1-3 they are so good.

You get some of that feeling back but, I dunno, just lacks. Bit ethnic in places as well, needlessly in my opinion.

6/10.

A film starring a black actor, directed by a black man and co-written by a black man is a bit too "ethnic" for you?

Didn't you get enough of a 'non ethnic' perspective from the first 6 Rocky movies?

I am very concious of bringing this thread into a race arguement, and we all know how those end up, but....

It was just one bit in particular.

Where they were talking about what to name the baby, and they were going to call her Ameria or whatever, and Rocky says why cant you just call it Kate or similar, and then Creed says you do know we are black and those are not black names.

I just dont understand why they put this part into the film, why make a point of it?

In my opinion, a name is a name, a name isnt a "black name" or a "white name" its just a name. It bugged me a bit.

I watched 'The black phone' with my wife at the cinema last night.

Really enjoyable I thought; good performances and an interesting premise. It's set in 1978, so you avoid the issue of mobile phones and though a few of the teenagers are portrayed as quite violent you still get the general naiveite of that era.

It had a few good jump scares. Ethan Hawk plays a sicko very well and it even had a funny little bit where a young girl is confronted by the police and uses some colourful language towards them (not what you would have ever gotten in a movie actually made in 1978)

8/10 - though not much in the way of re-watch value.

The Dirt.

Second time I seen this just as good if not enjoyed it more the second time around.

I am a fan of Motley Crue so that no doubt helps, but think it is just an excellent movie and what happens to his daughter is heartbreaking. I just think my son is literally the same age as his daughter was.

9/10.

Thor love and thunder - 4/10

Very similar to what happened between GotG 1 and 2 where they just dialled everything that was original and I enjoyed about the first film up to 11. It probably wouldn't have worked as well second time around if they were conservative and when dialled up to 11 it was just cringe and awful. Jokes were telegraphed and fell flat. It was all the same joke told a dozen times.

I think I have just had enough of Marvel films for a while. They feel like they are being churned out based on an algorithm that should make good films by analysing what people like but just ends up missing that essence of what made them good.

Its the film equivalent of youtube titles and thumbnails. Everyone ******* hates the same stupid faces everyone makes on them and the clickbait titles but they still go and watch the video and feed the algorithm and the junk feedback loop continues.

Thats not even a little bit true in reality. Yes there is quite a lot of crossover with black kids with white names but there are a hell of a lot of "black" names that are never given to white kids. I think that in the UK is not as obvious but in the US there will be loads of names you have never heard of because they are just "black" names.

My partner works in London hospitals and a mum came in with her daughter whose name was La-A. Want to guess how you pronounce that one? :p

The Sea Beast

The [illegitimate] child of How To Train Your Dragon and Moby Dick, this is a well made animated flick but simply doesn't have that bit extra that lifts it to the level of the best animated movies. I expect it'll be enjoyed by the younger audience that it is aimed at, but it's not worth going out of your way for adult audiences.

By the numbers 6/10.

amazing, we've one of those also!
must have been a trend at a stage

LA DASH A, no clue how the registrants let them away with it

I watched From Dusk Till Dawn for the first time the other night. Seemed really good most of the way through, but then WTF? Turned completely ridiculous!

I also watched Seven Pounds the night before, I thought it was a bit 'meh'.

The TV show of From Dusk till Dawn is worth a watch :)

EDIT - Just realised the thread opened half way down page one and i've quoted a 13 year old post. My point remains valid though!
