What film did you watch last night?

Acts of Vengeance (2017) - 5/10

The storytelling style adds some weight to an otherwise straightforward story of revenge which isn’t anything special.

Good fight scenes and Banderas is a good lead in this mildly entertaining overly serious and dramatic revenge thriller.

Three Thousand Years of Longing - 6½/10

Seemed... a little pointless to me.

it did seem to peter out a little towards the end and her visions of the initial Djinn's were never really explained
Definitely. I mean, the ending... so she didn't release him? It wasn't a love story as that was just her wish, not them actually falling in love... then, where did he go? He was still bound to her, wasn't he? It was only two wishes?

Nice visuals and I guess some interesting short stories... an okay movie.

Assassins Creed 2016. - 5/10

I initially saw this in the cinema as I was a big AC fan before the games turned into a cut & paste grind layered ontop of an MTX base.

I recall being hugely miffed at the scenes in Andalusia, which were covered by too much smoke/fog of war and looked muddy and poor. Also too many damn eagle shots, which were pointless. Well last night I was still hugely miffed at both amongst a few other things. I still can't believe they messed up this film and the ending at the Templar HQ in London was just a mess. Sofia seeing that amazing reveal - literally the best part of the film and I doubt we'll see a sequel to explain it, which saddens me deeply.

Dogma, courtesy of Youtube since Harvey Weinstein is holding it hostage . Not seen it for a fair number of years and still as funny as I remember, though I kind of forgot how aggressive Jay was in his pursuit of the female protagonist, was ever so slightly creeped out by it this time, but then again that is the character of Jay and is of its time of course.

Ticket to Paradise with Clooney & Roberts. Not as funny as we had hoped, reasonably ok. 6/10, gave it an extra point as we were the only 2 people in the Cinema so it clearly needed all the help it could get.

I Came By (2022) - 6/10

Initially about modern social justice warriors trying to right the wrongs of the world through graffiti, the film takes a darker and more sinister turn as it explores how the rich and powerful can get away with almost anything.

Good acting and some tension and mystery, but it sort of fizzles out in the second half before righting itself in time for the ending.

It doesn’t really look at why the disillusioned youth have a grudge against the white elite, other than they do, and most of the other plot beats are functional, but nothing new.

It was entertaining enough and it held my interest, but could have been so much more.

The Greatest Beer Run Ever - AppleTV+ 8/10

This was way better than I expected. Initially panned by reviewers, most likely because they couldn't get past the first half hour. After that it picks up pace and maintains it. Zac Efron does well with our main character and ultimate tubster Russell Crowe does a very good job too.

Emergency Declaration

Was rather excellent and edge of seat moments throughout and done differently to the usual disaster movie Top notch acting as you would expect from South Korea.
