What film did you watch last night?

100% agree - it's garbage like this that makes me seriously think that DC have somehow managed to get someone in the upper echelon of Marvel to bring it down from the inside!
They've just gotten comfortable, testing the water with any old crap. People still paying to see it, so they'll carry on cranking it out. They don't even have to try.

That's not really "getting comfortable". They are trying completely new things, some work and some don't.

People say they were happy with MCU up to Endgame, but if they had just trudged on putting out the same content people would be bored.

Worst things for me so far, have been:

Black Widow
Falcon & Winter Soldier
Thor: Love & Thunder
She Hulk finale episode

Everything else, I have enjoyed to varying degrees.

For me

The Eternals, Captain Marvel and Black Panther have been the worst Marvel films so far. But most of them have been pretty mediocre at best anyway.

Probably the Guardians of the Galaxy films have been the highlights for me, I did quite like Thor Ragnarok too.

Three thousand years of longing. A very enjoyable and colourful movie which kept me entertained the whole way through. Am surprised it was such a box office bomb ($60 million to make, box office $17.9) as it deserved a much better result.

Wheelman (2017) - 7/10

An angrier, more foul mouthed version of ‘Drive’. The plot holds no surprises but is entertaining with some tension and style and Grillo has a certain charisma about him.

Having the camera always within the car (except near the end) is an interesting design choice which doesn’t necessarily add anything, but does make for a more intense experience.

The action in the final act some much needed thrills and overall, I found it a good and enjoyable film.

Cop Land - 7/10.

It must have been 20 years since I last watched this. I remember owning the dvd in the early 2000's. I dont think it's help up brilliantly. The motives of the corrupt cops are vague and many of the plot points are just rushed over. I think it might work better as a limited series these days to give it time to breath. Keitel seems to be phoning it in somewhat, and though Robert Deniro is in it, he only gets about 4-5 small scenes as an internal investigator.

Stallone was 50 when he filmed this and put on a bunch of weight for this role. The rumour was that this movie caused him to ultimately get plastic surgery because he couldn't shift the excess weight from his face afterwards.

Death Race 2 (2010) - 2/10

It’s violent and bloody action packed entertainment, but not really in a good way. The film looks cheap with sloppy fight scenes and mediocre special effects.

The premise is laughable and has weak and lazy writing and acting, even considering the relatively famous support cast.

The choppy editing style briefly adds to the carnage but quickly gets annoying and although the cars look the part, the whole TV show style just makes it seem cheap.

The ending is just ridiculous and completely built around setting up the next in the series, resulting in a very poor and severely underwhelming finale.

All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) - 8.5 / 10

Saw this at the cinema, fantastic adaptation that left the audience emotionally stunned. Bleak and depressing, but intense and absorbing. Highly recommended if you're into this type of film.

I’ve thought that the twist in the Usual Suspects was overrated when I rewatched it. Great on a first viewing.

The audience is deliberately shown things that aren’t true of Spacey’s true identity - as in, he wouldn’t be doing the things he’s shown to be doing. Not major things, but location, mannerisms, expressions.

I feel like that’s a little manipulative, for lack of a better word.

But that's because literally anything Spacey says is a potential lie. He's the ultimate unreliable narrator.

The only things we see that happen are anything Spacey isn't telling us. Like the cop sitting by the bed of the burnt guy.
