What film did you watch last night?

Finally got round to watching Glass last night after putting it off because of reviews. Such a disappointing end to the series. Every time you think Shyamalan has recovered his career he puts out another disappointment.

Death Race 3: Inferno (2012) - 5/10

A continuation of the previous film, but also an improvement with faster, better fight scenes and higher production values.

The film follows the same formula as the previous one and takes a while for the race to start, but the new setting is good with a ‘Mad Max’ vibe and plenty of vehicular combat and focus on the drivers.

The acting’s not great and it gets a bit dull and repetitive in the second half, but the ending was good, even though it was far too positive and drawn out.

The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) - 8/10

A very peculiar film manly about 2 people living in a small isolated rural Irish island community.

It manages to deliver laugh out loud comedy and hefty emotional drama intermingled with great scenery and poignant imagery.

The acting of the relatively small cast of characters is good, even if some of them are a bit stereotypical, and the detached atmosphere comes across through the characters and the setting.

It does struggle a bit towards the end to reach a point, but it’s still enjoyable throughout.

We avoided Jurassic World: Dominion because of the poor reviews.

However I note there is an extended edition. Anyone compared the two? Does it improve things? Would it be worth watching the extended version?

Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Good grief I only have my self to blame.

Not as bad as Thor Love and Thunder. Not as bad as She-Hulk. Still terrible though.

Just a mess.

3/10

Yeah this was a poor show. I kind of liked the first Dr strange. But as with most marvels in last 5 years. It was garbage.
They really are churning out the crud

Well just a quick update on this. We did watch it last night

It was...fine. It wasn't great, it wasn't very "Jurassic parky". It felt more like a Mission Impossible movie, except with more CGI enhanced stunts.

I still wouldn't recommend it, I'll never watch it again but I can't say it was terrible.

6/10

I was reading up on the changes and it does sound like the version we watched is superior to the theatrical release:

JoJo Rabbit

Surreal black comedy based on the rich vain of humour that is the Holocaust and Hitler. Properly laugh out funny in places and movingly tragic in others. The main cast all put in impressive performances (doubly so given the age of some of them) and it has some fine visual humour too. Yet, it seems to be less than the sum of its parts and I suspect is better in the remembering than the watching.

7/10 but also, in a strange way, a must watch movie.

Black Adam 6/10. Slightly better than average if you can forgive the rather predictable plot line.

Johnson was decent as were the other actors, I didn't find myself sitting there counting time in the plot but the plot itself is basically the same for all the DC/Marvel. The focus on the backstory was really a distraction but the main story is still the same. Some twists, but better than most of the recent DC/Marvel.

The Stranger (2022).

A group of men with beards in Australia drive around a lot in between sitting in hotel rooms. Everything appears to be a shade of brown or beige. Some of these men with beards are police officers. One of them might be a child murderer. One of the policemen has troubling dreams. I tried to care, but couldn’t. I’d have ****** it off after 15 minutes, but Herself wanted me to watch it with her.

Weird noises and moody views of the scenery abound.

I think it might be a metaphor for something that I’m not smart enough to understand.

Or it could 2 hours of arty ********.

Avoid.
