What film did you watch last night?

Fall.

Women, amirite? But we gave them the vote, so what can you do?

Anyway, we meet Becky, a recreational rock climber. who is busy struggling with depression and alcoholism in the wake of a personal tragedy. Becky's friend Hunter arrives, and spectacularly fails at persuading her to stop feeling sorry for herself, but does manage to talk her into one more climb for the lulz.

So they arm themselves with a paltry assortment of largely inappropriate climbing equipment, and drive out into the middle of nowhere without telling anyone where they are going. Then they climb an obscenely tall radio tower which is visibly on the verge of collapse, and get stuck at the top.

I have a painfully bad phobia of heights, and know virtually nothing about rock climbing, but even I could spot the myriad technical flaws in this movie, which has been understandably savaged on IMDB by people who do this stuff professionally. Every 5 minutes brings yet another lay of incomprehensible stupidity, until all talk of suspending disbelief is simply out of the question.

If there's one thing I can say for this movie, it's that it was a great hate watch. I hated the story, I hated the characters, I hated their ********, and I hated the absurdity of the situation I was being asked to accept as realistic.

I rate Fall at 13.32 on the Haglee Scale, which works out as a feeble 4/10 on IMDB.

The Batman

7/10

Not too bad. Not convinced by Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. He looked good in the suit but i think they went a bit too emo on his appearance as Bruce Wayne.

I liked the score (when i could hear it..)

The audio mixing was absolutely atrocious (seen this commented a lot online). The sound effects were so much louder than the dialogue and music it was just silly. Don't know how any of the people creating this listened back to it and thought it was ok. Some of the scenes where the score was supposed to give a lot of emotional clout were destroyed. When He was walking towards the Penguin's upturned car, the focus was entirely on his footsteps and the music was lost in the background when it should have been at the forefront. Awful.

Anyway, sound rant over - it was entertaining, but not a patch on the Nolan trilogy unfortunately...which is the main issue. The Nolan trilogy did just about every facet of the characters, story, music better so it made this film a bit pointless.

The Outfit , starring Mark rylance as a cutter(not a tailor!) in mobster Chicago.

It feels like a play, as everything is set in 1 building. I found it very engrossing, and rylance puts in a great performance.

(currently on sky movies/now TV)

Fight Club - not seen for ages so was happy to watch when my 17 year old suggested it. It is a very good film but doesn't seem like a very good film for quite a while until it does. 4/5
