What film did you watch last night?

Meet Cute (Amazon).

On face value it didn't seem to be a film I was bothered about seeing but after reading a few comments on IMDB, I gave it a go.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film and it's dark tone.

del Toro's Pinnochio

An extraordinary work, quite unlike anything else and perhaps worth watching for that alone. But I didn't really like it, it seemed unsure of what it wanted to be, both more grounded and more fantastical than most takes on the classic tale, and highly inconsistent in tone. It seemed immensely confused, like a weird chimera of half a dozen different movies stitched together.

Almost saved by the seagull gag.

5/10 watch it for the film making rather than enjoying the actual movie.

Just re watched rogue one, this really is a jewel in a turd crown for the non original movies.

The sheer scale of the space battles and the non Mary sue theme with everyone being vulnerable makes for some incredibly moving moments.

An easy 8/10 even on a second watch

Your comment nudged me to re-watch it - still love that film.

The SW fanatics will attack me for this, but it's my favourite SW film... but then I'm one of the weird ones who prefers 1-3 over 4-6... oops

Smile - didn't finish.

I just don't get the excitement around this, maybe for horror casuals it's fine but for anyone with more than a passing attachment to horror, it's just not good. Jump scares are glaringly telegraphed, it re-treads the same old ground with the build ups, there's just nothing interesting here. I'd normally not have bothered with it but i'm constantly seeing snippets and comments about it on the horror sites I frequent.

I'm a completionist so will revisit at some point, perhaps.

The Frighteners (1996)

A great spooky film with MJ Fox. Man I miss him from old movies. The CGI held up surprisingly well and overall great film.

8/10

The 4K transfer also a good one.
