What film did you watch last night?

Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) - 9/10

A great film throughout with a simple but effective plot and great acting and characters.

It is a visual treat from start to finish and allows you to experience a beautiful alien culture with an idyllic relationship with nature.

The story isn’t particularly deep and the events were all very predictable, but the 3 hours just flew by as you’re enraptured by the visuals and intrigued by the themes it presents.

Avatar (2009)

My rating: 9/10

We watched it as a refresher for seeing the new one next week. I somehow always remembered it as overrated, with excellent visuals and an average storyline. This time round it felt as though I was watching for the first time. I was fully immersed in the story and the great visuals even on my 1080p Bravia! It really is one of the best films I have seen.

Looking forward to watching the second in the cinema

Omen III: The Final Conflict https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082377/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

I've only seen a bit of this before and a long while ago, too, so this time I wanted to finish it and determine just how good or bad it is.

For a fair chunk of the film, I actually found myself quite enjoying it.
Sam Neill is a good actor and provides a fairly good performance, though later on at a certain point, it seems to take a bit of a nosedive.

However, I still enjoyed it overall.

Dare I carry on to the fourth in the series? I think I may give it a try.

Omen IV: The Awakening https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102585/

There's little in the way of redeeming features here, save for the occasional piece of music.

The editing and pacing seem quite off and, if anything, I found myself laughing throughout the bit I did see.

Avatar: The Way of Water

My rating: 8/10 but only just.

Watched it at our local Odeon Luxe in 3D. I don't do great with 3D but family wanted it so I went along. Once my eyes adjusted I got used to the motion blur and what not and enjoyed the film.

The drawbacks were motion and storyline.

Starting with motion, I felt like the entire thing was similar to when you walk through a TV department and they're all set to the sales display mode with everything looking really fast and unnaturally moving. Some of the physics seemed inconsistent and there were a few moments the movements were similar to game cut scenes.

As for storyline, I won't spoil it but I just thought things could have been better.

If this film came out of nowhere it would possibly get a 9/10. Since I watched the original a couple of days ago in 1080p I couldn't help feel a tad underwhelmed and that we haven't been gifted 13-14 years of improvements.

Overall a really good film with beautiful depth of colour and fantastic image quality, bar the above issues.

Back To The Future trilogy 10/10

Needs no explanation. Seen them more times than I care to remember, yet absolutely love them every single time. Part 3 has grown a lot more on me over the years. Well, lookee what we have here!

For me, they're the perfect movies

Eternals......again. Still awful. some of the story just didn't make sense so was hoping a fresh watch would help me decipher it better. it didn't. i liked the premise/story but the writing was just so so lazy/bad.

you've a group of 'eternals' who were created with the purpose of protecting sentient life from Deviants. good start but then you discover that one of these eternals, Sprite, is a 'child' with the ability to create illusions.......why, to what end?! how does that help kill the things they were expressly created to destroy. Sersi.....the ability to turn non living things into flowers (or whatever she wants)......why would their creator have felt the need for a soldier with those abilities. common sense would dictate that they would all just be a group of Ikaris'

it also proper annoyed me that they have Robb Stark and Jon Snow and a Sersi.......did nobody on the writing and casting crew think this was a silly idea?! maybe it was on purpose?
all of that coupled with the fact that Richard Madden is a horribly wooden actor just made for a horribly bad film that could have been so so much better.

Also, Angelina Jolie can just **** off with those stupid looking lips and skinny ass arms. i think by the end i was starting to suffer from mahd wy'ry more than her character was

Lady Chatterley's Lover (2022)

I'll get the obvious out of the way first: there's plenty of sex and nudity, graphic in a way that would have been fantastic for a 13 year old me who was terribly excited by the underwear section of the Kay's catalogue but is nothing notable in the internet age. But it's also some of the least gratuitous sex I've seen in films because it is so essential to the story. I've not read the book nor watched any previous version, so knew nothing beyond it being famous for being pure filth whereas it's actually a subtle and moving story, more of a tragic romance than anything else. This version is well shot and very well acted.

Recommended, just don't watch it with the kids 8/10

The story should be better they had 13 years to do it.

Men - 5/10

I think I foolishly had very high hopes for this. It just wasn’t as eerie or scary as I’d imagined from watching the trailer (I might file a class action lawsuit  ). Good idea, not brilliantly executed. Performances were great though. I certainly didn’t expect it to play out how it did in the end.

I got the “wtf did you just make me watch” at the end from my girlfriend. That’s another black mark for me picking a film :o

Bones and all - This could have been a decent, atmospheric road movie about 2 youngsters who fall in love along the way aside from the fact that they are both cannibals and cannot stop themselves from eating people :D I enjoyed it overall but be warned, it is quite shocking in places. 7.5/10.
