What film did you watch last night?

Lord of the Ring extended on 4k (Disk)

4k transfer is excellent but didn't notice much of an upgrade on the audio.

I keep jumping between the 3 films to see what one is my favourite. Guess that's a hallmark of a good trilogy.

The fellowship is mine. It blew me away in the cinema when I very first watched it. Almost like it's not a movie but something else different entirely as other movies just don't come close

It's amazing how many people I see watching the LoTR films regularly at Christmas, and I would include myself in that. I've watched all 6 (extended) films in the last week or so and still love them all, even the Hobbit trilogy. I don't care what anyone else says, they're entertaining movies even if they do stray from the books in a number of places.
I think that the dedication to the books in the movies is close enough to make them epic movies and that if you want the real hardcore version you just read the books. It somehow makes the books still worth the read and current.

Glass Onion. It was entertaining enough right upto the end where they were about to burn the Mona Lisa and I switched it off out of disgust and didn't think about it again until now.

Unfortunately another movie that thinks it's being clever but is as see through as a glass onion ironically....

4/10

Made with love and respect for the source material.

And currently mine. It's the lighthearted moments from the Shire that is currently wining it for me and Boromir redemption. You get an excellent mix of emotions in that one scene.

Theatrical all the way. Turning on his 'human chip' adds nothing but cheese.

Go on then I'll bite.

I actually agree in most part the Theatrical cut is better.

The only part of the special edition I think I like is the fact that there is some indication the T1000 is getting damaged.

In the original version, as far as you can tell from the viewers point of view, the T1000 is basically 100% until it is destroyed at the end of the movie.

In the special edition, there are several only very short scenes where you can see it's camouflage glitching a bit, which would suggest that it is starting to get affected by all the damage.

It doesn't make it obvious (which I like) but adds a bit of depth, in my opinion. It would probably total a minute of footage over the original version.

Munich - 8/10

After the Black September capture and massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics, five men are chosen to eliminate the people responsible for that fateful day.
I really enjoyed this film, I don't think we've ever had the best of Ciaran Hinds or Eric Bana in movies.

Have you ever watched the Documentary One Day in September it really adds context if you don't know a great deal about the events of Munich.

Avatar 2, imax

8/10

Used Lloyd's cinema tickets to get 20 pounds off. But Imax is now 30gbp for 2 people! Think it would have been less impactful in standard. Wouldn't pay 30 for Imax now.

Visually and sonically amazing. As expected. 3d was good. But it wasn't as Wow! as the first one simply due to how much tech has moved on (other films catching up).

Story was better than I expected from reviews
But lacking in dialogue and a few plot issues (one quite frustrating) but you go to this for the experience. Very very much set up for more sequels. But if it doesn't make the cash, these won't come. I suspect that's why characters haven't reached potential.

Sum up, what I hoped for, better than expected reading reviews.
Worth seeing, probably only in Imax.

You do realise there are three more films coming after this? All four (new) movies were being filmed back-to-back so there will definitely be sequels :)

I've heard this very much depends on the grossing value of this one.

Apparently it's made. 1.4bln.
It has to make gross 1.5-2bln to be profitable.

Edit.
Does look like they are so far through avatar 3 would be no point nor going all the way

Strange World

The recent Disney film that tanked.

It’s really not very good. The characters are incredibly generic and there is this insanely irritating tweeness to the dialogue and animation that really rubbed me the wrong way. There is a scene at the start where the family are dancing to making dinner which made me want to blow my brains out. The little blue alien is quite grating but the dog… oh god, this ****ing dog. Put him down.

With all of that said, the creatures are fun and it becomes far more interesting towards the final sections… but it’s a slog.

5/10

Glass onion knives out 2..
7/10
Strong opening and middle act but the finale was really weak i thought.
Ok overall but it just wasn't clever enough.

The most annoying part was answering the numerous questions from my lads as to why the young kid was gay

That article is from 2017. Plus Avatar 2 was supposed to be released in 2020. So don't hold your breath. We all know Cameron likes to take his time. Avatar 3 won't be till late next year so them time schedules on that article are all wrong. Yes I know we have COVID etc etc. But I doubt they'll be released in quick form.
