What film did you watch last night?

Maverick was the most popular film of 2022 and most people love it. Then again if you didn't like the original you likely won't like this one. Great acting, great action and very believable flight sequences, along with much of the original soundtrack.

Loved Top Gun when I was a kid and obsessed with planes but it's one of a number of films I grew out of love with as a I got older. Moonraker and Temple of Doom are two other films that I absolutely loved as a kid but think suck now I'm older.

As for Maverick, maybe it was the sky high expectation I had after reading reviews and hearing people talk about it but it just didn't do anything for me.

Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)

Not a movie I would normally choose to watch, but fam was watching it so sat down as well.

I know there have been many (terrible) sequels but honestly I didn't think this was  that bad.

I liked they had the guy who played Buzz as the cop, and there were a couple of good lines, one about remakes being terrible.

Also found the girl in it to be oddly quite cute.

Respectible 4/10.

I’m disappointed that this even exists :( I had no idea they were still making Home Alone movies.

In keeping with watching some old classics, managed to get Stand by Me and Cool Runnings in today.

I also watched LOTR last night but only the first hour though as I was inspired to continue playing the witcher. Fantastic film
It's amazing how many people I see watching the LoTR films regularly at Christmas, and I would include myself in that. I've watched all 6 (extended) films in the last week or so and still love them all, even the Hobbit trilogy. I don't care what anyone else says, they're entertaining movies even if they do stray from the books in a number of places.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day Special Edition

10/10

Watched T1 last night and started 2023 off with my favourite film of all time. It holds up really well and the extra scenes in this version helped wrap it up nicely.

The bonus was how much the wife enjoyed it, which was a surprise! I had to hold myself back for her questions:

Q1 - (referring to the two terminators) Are they both bad guys then?
Q2 - Liquid metal? So they can freeze him to destroy him?
Q3 - How does he regenerate clothes?

There were others but those were my top picks

Yup Terminator 2 is also my favourite movie of all time, now the question of special edition Vs original cut is a whole other thread....

The Place Beyond the Pines - 6/10

A slow burn, but good watch. It’s been on my watchlist for a long time now, glad to finally get through it. Enjoyed how the film was essentially two parts, I wasn’t expecting that.

I feel it was somehow missing something though.. Perhaps a bit more violence or back story to Gosling’s character.
