What film did you watch last night?

I'm aware the link was from 2017 but it was the first one I found and I was feeling particularly lazy when I replied. Here's one from 2020 confirming Cameron had almost finished shooting the third film, and another link from last October saying the first act of the fourth movie is complete. Given that, I don't think there's much doubt at all that the sequels will be released. Whether they stick to the original release schedule or not is another matter.

Medieval 2022 on Netflix.

This had the potential to be an epic movie with the back story being so good.

Unfortunately they completely messed it up. From the terrible acting to the terrible writing it was an absolute shambles. I had no idea what was going on for most of the movie. Apparently 2 kings were making plays for power but I had no idea which was which and even who they were!

Awful movie, if they spent as much time on the story line than they did with the gory special effects then we could have had a decent movie on our hands.

Black Adam. 6/10.

Wasn’t as bad as people have made out, it’s a DC film, gone are the days of the Dark knight quality of films but for what it was, not bad.

The best bit of Black Adam was the scene at the end with Superman, and only because you heard the da da da-da-da, daa daa daa (proper John Williams not crappy MoS music :p).

Medieval

I didn't know anything about this part of history so made a nice change.

Looked great, interesting story, excellent set pieces...the fighting was brutal. Good acting for the most part aside from some dodgy accents and Ben Foster is always watchable. The only big problem with it was the dialogue was low and hard to follow so had to put subtitles on, maybe Christopher Nolan was involved.

Eyes Wide Shut

Finally got around to this. Strange film, equally outlandish, intriguing and human. I had to watch the ending scene a couple of times to try and understand the tone it was trying to end on.

… it ended so abruptly! At first I thought it was very unresolved, but actually it resolved itself just as well as things in life can - with lingering uncertainty, humans going to human and strong thoughts/feelings/events never being the whole ‘defining’ truth.

Consider it has a pretty meaty run time, I wasn’t bored at all - impressive.

8.5/10

Rewatch the end scene in the toy shop and take note of...

The daughter being led away by the two old men (elite)

Some nice theories about various elements throughout the movie, quite layered and interpretational.

Hmm I think that’s a bit of a reach? They don’t really interact with the girl at all:

If the film has a theme, I guess it’s just the struggle of being human - having emotional (sexual) needs that are destructive, yet the further you push them away… OR the more you expose yourself to them… the more they suck you in! Have to keep those desires close, but not too close.

Or something :)

Oh - not a film but just sharing with ‘horror club’… (@SixTwoSix @arc@css) there is a video game I’ve been playing through called Visage that is pretty much unbearable. I’m not even sure I can recommend it because it’s so stressful. But… if you want to push yourself beyond what is possible in a film…

Huuurghn!

@Nitefly @SixTwoSix

Does anything stand out for you in this still from Eyes Wide Shut?
