What film did you watch last night?

The Whale - 8/10

The latest film from Darren Aronofsky and in usual form it's a provoking challenging film. Very minimalistic in that it's virtually set entirely in one location with only 6-7 actors throughout. The story was originally a theatrical play and it reflects its source.

Brendan Fraser plays a morbidly obese English teacher who is trying to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter. Sounds simple, but the depth was amazing, a real feels movie.

Can't say I've ever been a fan of Fraser, but I understand why I read that after it's initial screening the audience gave a standing ovation to him. He was absolutely fantastic, you totally felt his struggles and emotional turmoil. Oscar worthy stuff imo.

Saw the trailer for this the other day and it looks challenging.

Always a good sign for a film.

Payback - not as good as I remembered. Maybe I was thinking of Mel Gibson in Ransom. Either way, it sucked. Hard. However I think it was the inspiration for a lot of the dialogue in Max Payne.

Raiders of the lost ark - always as good as I remember. First time I saw it, Grandad had recorded it on VHS circa 1987. Saturday afternoon Indy Jones, winning. A Team, Catchphrase, nightime drive home listening to The Eagles in an E reg Ford Escort Ghia. Good times.
I remember enjoying Ransom at the cinema back in the day but cant remember anything about Payback even though I know ive seen it.

Rocky 4

The most fun entry of the lot - even aside from the comic book Cold War tensions… that robot! “Happy-Birthday-Paulie” :o :D

There is genuine feels with the ‘first fight’ and the montages are sublime. So much anticipation of ‘Hearts on Fire’… and then it kicks off and you can’t help but mock exercise along :p

8/10
Rocky 4 is the best of the lot

Total Recall (1990) - 8/10

Absolute mind altering smasher, classic Arnie.

Sharon Stone was smokin in this

Thor Love and Thunder - garbage.

Fell asleep the fist time i tried to watch it, finally finished it.

Russell Crowe - what have you done to yourself? :(

Hemsworth - holy poop, what a bod!! (and i'm a guy!)

Bale - good and very scary villain :)

Captured kids story and mini Thors - GTFO.

@Nitefly the next one is Rocky Balboa right?

Be interested to see what you think I was pleasantly surprised, to be honest I've only seen it once should watch it again.

I didn't like any of the Creed movies personally.

Yup Rocky Balboa is next, followed by Creed. Have watched both already so will post my views later / tomorrow!

Rocky 4 is the best of the lot

You can’t beat the original but 4 is the best ‘comic book fight’ film of the lot, I’ll give you that :)

… must admit I’m mildly bummed that nobody else is seeing / reviewing Puss in Boots 2 - it’s not only a great cinema experience, but also the sort of well-crafted film that deserves supporting at the cinemas. It makes other yawn-some animations like Strange World seem woefully underdeveloped. This quote from a review captures it for me:

Puss’s existential crisis drives this imaginative, often hilarious adventure, but it does more than that. It anchors all the derring-do with earnest emotion and recognizable struggle. The film never feels as if it’s winking at its adult audience while dishing out frivolity to youngsters. Instead, somehow the filmmakers bridge that, engaging all ages with an emotionally complex but digestible tale, gorgeously rendered, beautifully acted and shockingly fun.

So forgive me for going on about it (again) but… I really do hope more people go to see it. I’ll shut up about it now :o :p

I've seen it, it was ok 6.5/10 :D

The Quiet Place, never finished it before. 5/10

It was ok, but the ending was a bit crap, these creatures have super hearing and we're meant to believe nobody thought to try different frequencies at various volumes to see how it would affect them? Yeah ok.
