What film did you watch last night?

Emmanuel Lubezki. Went on to do Gravity, Birdman and The Revenant. The other oner in Children of Men is epic.

EDIT: I just watched that with headphones on. The sound is absolutely incredible too. I also love the fact the blood spatter on the lens halfway through wasn't intentional. They finished the shot and the camera man was saying it was all no good, when they watched it back they realised it was absolutely perfeect.
It's a fantastic sequence and the cuts are done so well as to be virtually unnoticeable unless pointed out.

True Detective has a comparable oner scene in season 1 - utterly brilliant television.

A Quiet Place (2018) - 7/10

A decent movie that needs to be played with a good sound system and no distractions in order to get the full experience and effect as sound is the main driver of the movie.

Going to rewatch this tonight as not seen it since release in the Cinema. One of if no the best Cinema experience I have ever had. Absolute everyone was silent. No crisps no munching a whole cinema absolute silent and scared and jumping at scenes. I generally dislike the cinema but that was a night to remember.

You were lucky then lol. All it takes is for one person to ruin the moment and that is why I don't go to the local cinema anymore.

All Quiet on the Western Front 2022 (Netflix) 8.5/10

A particularly good war film, Das Boot remains the benchmark, from the few pickings, and one that depicts WW1. It differs from the novel but as a war film, memorable scenes, and characters. Very bleak and well, sure as hell makes you think.

Jules - 2003 - 6/10

Easy, charming but essentially vanilla watch. Massive waste of Ben Kingsley's talents and not one I'd rush to watch again or recommend, but it was alright. A good "watch with the Mrs" film.

The Sacrament https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2383068/

Good flick for a one-time viewing. It features the chap that played the gas/service station owner in No Country for Old Men (Gene Jones).
Talk about a change of character! :D
Really rate this, along with House of the Devil - two of my favourite Ti West movies, not particularly keen on X or Pearl tbf.

The Creator (2023) - 7/10

A mixed film with old and new ideas which is enjoyable and entertaining to watch but also rather forgettable.

The setting is different yet familiar and the story is straightforwardly predictable but well told and with expected emotional heft.

The blend of robotic CGI with the actors is seamless, the acting is great and the mix of American and Asian language, culture and cast adds to the setting.

The futuristic setting looks great, but it’s nothing new and the topics it covers has been done before and more memorably.

Bottoms - 7/10

Reviews on IMDb are rather split and I can see why. It's a very weird film, but by the end, I was really enjoying it. Marshawn Lynch (NFL Legend) was a bit of a surprise, but actually very funny...

Guardians of the Galaxy 3

What can I say? I'm about an hour in with another 90 minutes to go and I'm posting on a forum.....doesn't bode well does it??

I genuinely don't understand how Marvel can go from the heights of Infinity War and Endgame, to this God-awful pile of steaming excrement!

Every single film and series post-Endgame has been dreadful and this doesn't buck the trend!

Think you are in the minority there

Bull (2021) - 8/10

Brutal British revenge thriller ala Get Carter, which, was one of Caine's best films.

A good cast. David Hayman and Neil Maskell, the latter always plays the unhinged - starred in one horror I've yet to stomach all the way through (Kill List).

Really good, very dark, and violent - shan't say anymore otherwise it will spoil.
