What film did you watch last night?

It Comes At Night - 6/10.

Unsure what to make of this one. Not much happens, nothing is really explained. Guess it wants you to draw your own conclusions. Mine being that it needed to have another few rounds in the writing room. Disappointing for the usually solid A24 output.

I mean its a game of opinions and all that but LOTR is not even close to being average.
I watched them again recently, I found them tedious and couldn't really gel with any of the characters.

Anyway, not trying to be edgy or whatever, so will leave it at that.

Ferrari - 5.5/10

I hadn't looked specifically what this was about and went in assuming it was a story around how Ferrari came to be who they are. Instead, it was a little odd to me... a story with little context about a race, with no real clear meaning?

Eight Below (2006)

Inspired by true events and a remake of a Japanese film. The parts of the film where the dogs are on there own are pure Disney and reminiscent of their older live action films with animals that appear to behave in a more human way. If you like that sort of thing then you'll enjoy this. I thought it was ok, not as good as the reviews would suggest, but a decent family film.

6.5/10

Young Guns (1988)

I remember this being a big film back when it was released. I also would've swore I'd seen it on VHS, but having watched it I don't think I have seen it. So maybe I've only ever seen the trailers, because having watched it now I don't remember any of it.

Apparently an accurate telling of the Lincoln County Wars that involved Billy the Kid and considering the time it was made, a good watch today. And doesn't need you to have any nostalgia for the film to enjoy it.

7/10

See How They Run (2022)

This one started off well and I thought I'd really enjoy it, especially as Sam Rockwell was the in the lead role. But at some point it went off the boil and I fell asleep and I doubt I'll go back to watch the 20 minutes or so I missed.

Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire (2023) - 5/10

Completely lacking in originality and personality, but entertaining enough sci-fi action and drama with a dark and serious setting.

The interplanetary settings and CGI mostly look good as did the frequent action scenes, even if the amount of slow-motion was bordering on excessive.

The plot is your typical child of destiny starting a rebellion to take down the space Nazis by recruiting a multicultural team, but the acting felt awkward rather than dramatic and the lower age rating made it feel a bit tame.

Hopefully the next film will add some depth to the characters and explore the interesting seeds such as the robot’s humanity.

I watched Avatar The Way of Water last night... What an absolute slog that was.
It could easily have been at least one hour shorter. And by the end I was just left wondering what happened to all the other characters, as it hyper-focused on a small group.
The sad thing is, I'd heard it was rubbish but at the beginning I was thinking "this isn't that bad". The time wasting adds up though, and the second half is just not great.
