What film did you watch last night?

Aftersun (BBC3) - ??? / ???

Honestly, I have no idea what I just watched. It bored the hell out of me.

I then looked up the wiki page to try to understand what I'd just watched.

Apparently this is one the highest rated films ever, with critics raving about it.

But nothing really happened. I'm clearly a dumbass who doesn't understand great films. Because it bored me and nothing happened in all the time I watched it (missed like the first 20 mins).

e: And the people reviewing it in this thread are giving it 9-10/10. Typical :p

This is a weird one, I give it 5/10 if was being kind

It's over an hour of dull and mundane story of a father and daughter on holiday before the tone changes slightly. The whole thing is too cryptic on the first watch, you expect something to happen but it never does and at the end when you do learn a bit more, it finishes.
At the end it hints that something was wrong with the father and Sophie as a kid was powerless or couldn't see the signs to help her father. The problem is I couldn't see it either, he didn't seem like he had any mental issues.

Red Rocket 8/10

Another A24 gem

I love small town America stories. This one follows a washed up porn actor returning to his hometown and shacking up with his wife that he's separated from. The lead is really good.
Ha, I’m on an A24 journey at the moment too. Looking to watch either X or Green Room this weekend :)

Madame Web (2024) - 3 /10

Weak in most regards, the best part was Ben & Cassie’s conversations which added some dry wit to an otherwise dry, boring and unexciting movie.

The plot wasn’t interesting as it went through its tired backstory and moral sections, the villain was dull and didn’t exude any menace and most of the dialogue was awkward and delivered poorly.

The action scenes and special effects looked cheap, the costumes at the end looked ridiculous and overall, it lacked any charm or thrills.

Suncoast - a coming of age movie of a sister involved in the palliative care of her older brother, brings up a few decent conversation points but very much of the current American flash points.
As a father of 2 children of which one who is severely disabled it hit the spot.

The Beepkeeper - 5/10

Jason Statham film so it's exactly the same tired, exhausted formula. A John Wick clone with just two decent characters (Jason and an old lady who's in it for 5mins) with everyone else just comedic in character.

"To bee or not to bee...." - dear god

Millers Girl.
God, that was a mistake. What a miserable film. It was horribly predictable. And I hate films that run with convention and normality.
The crunch of the film was just working out the ending, which was intelligent....but nonetheless, depressing.

Wonka

Went to see it with my daughter this morning at the cinema, she's give it 10/10, absolutely enchanted by it - I'd give it a solid 8/10. Really enjoyed it and I went in hugely skeptical.
I watched this with the family and we all really enjoyed it too. I concur with the 8/10 on this, it feels so much more authentic than any of the orher versions made after the original. Also has some really catchy songs

The Iron Claw (2023)

I have to agree with everyone else who've posted a positive review and just add that after reading up on, the real life story of the Von Erichs is even more tragic.

8/10
I've seen it too and will give an 8/10 also, anything from A24 has been worth watching in recent times.
Zak Efron was good in this, really bulked himself up too, you don't get that big through just hard work though.

Juiced to the gills I shouldn't wonder.

It's a double edged sword really.

If they come out and say they're on the juice then it could actually result in more people taking gear to get swole and wanting to know what cycle they're on. Which might not be the right thing for them or they buy from the black market and inject themselves with who knows what. At least the actors are doing so under the guidance of qualified people. Or at least you'd like to think so.

But all they all seem to do is go on the interview circuit, promoting their film and say they did it all on steamed chicken and broccoli.

Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse (3D) - 7.5 / 10

I've been meaning to watch this for a while, so when looking for a movie to test the 3D on my Quest 3, it seemed a good opportunity. Fun movie, nicely written and animated.
