What film did you watch last night?

Scream 3 (2000)

Never seen any of the Scream films before and watch the first two over the course of last year. Didn't think much of them and the wife picked this last night.

Couldn't wait for it to be over. Couldn't remember anything about the first two films, which seemed to have been required. All the Screaming drove me nuts and I don't find them scary or funny or entertaining.

Not for me and won't be watching any of the rest.

2/10

@PlacidCasual - it really is a bonkers yet great film. Took me totally by surprise too. Especially the rock scene.

Had a bit of a poorly daughter yesterday so watched a few films.

Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron: Personally, I don't really like this fim but she loves it. Bit too much Bryan Adams for my liking! Sadly she can watch this on repeat so the songs live mostly rent free in my head now.

Lilo and Stitch: Always enjoy this film along with The Emperors new Groove, these are two of my favourite Disney films of the last sort of 'cartoon' style. Up there with Jungle Book and Lion King.

Pixar's Soul: I've only seen it twice but I absolutely love it. Probably enjoyed it more than she did but I just find it really wholesome with a nice message. Not sure why but the little fish story really resonated with me. Plus some good voice performances. I'd like it if she would want to watch it as much as Encanto and Moanna but there's not enough songs in it for her.

I really want her to like ENG but she's 22months and there's not much to 'get' and it's not as visually exciting as the other films. I've always found it hilarious though.

As for Lilo and Stich, definitely check it out! It has one of my favourite Disney quotes within. Just waiting for a time in my life where I can say it to someone

“Let me illuminate to you the precarious situation in which you have found yourself. I am the one they call when things go wrong, and things have indeed gone wrong.”

For me what I love about it is it's a story not set around love which 95% of Disney animations are. It has some absolutely brilliant characters in it, very few tropes and is very funny. Kronk is just hilarious in every scene he's in.

Madame Web - 3/10
Absolutely wretched in every aspect. Most of the scenes are flat and are devoid of atmosphere or pacing, some scenes appear to have been re-cycled and redubbed to make sense in the story, which is still awful. Essentially the most pedestrain, dumb slasher movie ever made, minus the slashing. Editing is jarring and tons of out of focus scenes, especially early on to try and I guess give some sort of style and fast paced actiony feel to it. I'm trying to think of anything positive to say about it, but there's nothing other than, it's not as bad as Battlefield Earth.

Easily the worst film I've seen at the cinema.

Get Out

On my initial watch I thought this was a bit overrated but I really enjoyed it this time. The blend of horror and comedy is superb… and that awkward ‘we’re not racist’ racism is toe curling.

8/10

Fancying more from the same director…

Nope

I’d heard mixed things on this but I generally really enjoyed it. I went in quite blind other than knowing there were ‘sci-fi’ elements and it felt extremely ‘fresh’.

I really didn’t have a clue where it was going. Isn’t that just the best??

Again, the balance of comedy and horror was great. It’s certainly the first time I’ve ever found this sort of ‘threat’ menacing!

Unfortunately, I did find that it sagged towards the end as the final scenes just extend unnecessarily. A leaner edit would have really boosted the whole.

7/10 but more of a ‘one and done’ I think.

Every so often I'll just remember Kuzco trying to be sneaky around those two regular civilians by holding a note in his sneaking song and it'll make me smile

Ha - that was Kronk but I agree, classic.

My favourite moment is where…

…the old man is walking away: “gRoOoOOoOve”

Oh and “let me guess… you have a great personality?”

The Last Castle (2001)

I think I got about a third of the way through when I realised I had seen it before.

Robert Redford and James Gandolfini in a military prison drama. It's a decent film but lacks cruelty front the warden to generate enough conflict to get to where they end up. Everything seems to happen matter of factly to get the end of the story. Other than that it worth a watch just to see how good shape Redford was in at 65 years old at the time.

How the hell do you hide a trebuchet so the guards don't find it?
