the beekeeper - 7/10 - so stupid it was fun
forbidden city cop - 7.5/10 - another fun stephen chow film. Thats 3 for 3 so i'll be watching more
VHS2 - 5/10 - so so horror anthology thing

A Matter of Life Or Death, David Niven. Made in 1946, and one of my all time favourite films.

Love this movie, member berries of lazy Sunday afternoons watching classics like this. It's a Wonderful Life, Calamity Jane, 7 Brides, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid, The Wild Geese, Von Ryans Express, Gone with the Wond, Sound of Music, Pink Panther etc etc etc

The Omen films are very good, the first one in particular has a great atmosphere about it.

The second film is also one I would still recommend, though after that they do take a bit of a nosedive.

To a certain extent, I still did enjoy parts of the third film, but I doubt I will revisit it anytime soon.

Rescue Dawn (2006)

Christian Bale is tortured, probably for real with Werner Herzog directing. He also starves himself, not for the first time, to portray a real life prisoner of war shot down during the Vietnam war.

I have to say, despite a bit of fun poking in the previous paragraph, it really is an excellent film, with really great performances from Bale and the rest of the cast.

8/10

An Officer and a Gentleman (1982)

Seen it a few times before over the years, but after Louis Gossett Jr died we wanted to watch it again. It's still a good film and has aged really well.

7/10

Io Capitano - 7.5 / 10

Excellent foreign language film about the odyssey of two young Senegalese boys trying to reach Europe and the brutal journey and treatment from all the traffickers along the way. Life is cheap, but hope and human spirit endure.

Dune 1 again (to get ready to watch dune 2). Actually liked it better then the first time I watched it - because its because I watched it on a nice oled tv :)
7.5/10

Transformers - Dark of the Moon - 8/10

It just about gets a 7 for its overly long but action packed finale set and filmed in Chicago.

The good vs bad battle continues with more emphasis on Sam (Shia) than the autobots in general. Hell Optimus and Megatron barely get any screentime until the end sequences. There are a lot of pointless sequences in the film and Shockwave is criminally underused for what he is.

This is one of the better films in the series, if you can just work past the fluff. Exce

Transformers - Age of Extinction - 4/10

Screw this. I don't even know wtf I am watching here. Oh hey nice pins love...oh you're 17 :o

Traffic

Watched at the weekend. I enjoyed it when it was released but now it has a timeless quality about it.

There is just something about the way it is filmed that makes it special, and I can't think of many films where the characters feel so real.

It's a good reminder how film can be at the pinnacle of the arts.

9/10

Watching some more oldies.

In this case it was "Rock and Roll High School".
Probably about a 6 out of ten, reasonably fun film even if I've no interest in the Ramones, a bit different to the normal school comedy fare and interesting listening to the commentaries (4 IIRC) where they talk about how it was made, and things like the how many of the cast/crew went on to be involved in (or win themselves) oscar winners, including IIRC James Cameron who was bringing one of the main actresses coffee just a couple of years before they met again when he Directed Terminator (I think it was*), or one of the FX guys who went from making a giant mouse costume for a couple of gags to IIRC being an oscar winner.

Next up is probably either an early Lorna Dern film, Nick Cage, Edwood Woodward, or Lucas.

*Very much a great example of why in the TV/film industry you always want to be polite to people, as the guy brining you coffee this morning could very well be the director of a major film you're in a few years later.
