What film did you watch last night?

The first one is very funny and a logical end to the series. We've all been that age and you have a summer of fun before people have to get jobs or go to university.

The second one is just a cash grab.

The TV show Fresh Meat is the unofficial natural progression of Simon's time at uni.
Have you seen The Festival, stars Joe Thomas and again playing the 'Simon' character. It's from the creators of the Inbetweeners and could easily be Simon at uni.

Alien Romulus 3/10

Having watched all the franchise to date, this has to sit bottom of the pile.

The CGI was really poor.

The opening scene was so poorly rendered, I thought it was someone playing a console game and it would transition into a proper film.

So much green screen and don't get me started on all the old tech and extractor fan ducting everywhere.

Meh.
I thought some of the practical effects were brilliant, Rook was terrible though with the use of AI. It's definitely not the worst of the franchise for me. Ending went a bit strange though.

Alvarez talks about the effects and stuff here:

@OvalShaped How on earth have you never watched the Alien franchise?!

Smile (2022)

Thought this was pretty good for the most part. Had a few good jump scares and a sense of foreboding. It had a similar premise to 'IT Follows' (That is the superior movie IMO). The ex boyfriend cop was a bit stupid right at the end though having been implicitly told that
The spirit thing needs a witness to transfer to

7/10

I also watched it tonight with the mrs, didn't go much on it, preferred the first one, so did she.

Back to the Future part II 9/10

I love the trilogy but this is the most fun one. Was on at the cinema today as its BTTF day due to it being the day Marty and Doc travelled to in 2015. Also 35th anniversary of the films reelease this year.

My all time favourite movies :)

Fair enough on 3/10. It is a 7/10 for me, it was basically a 'best of compilation' from the previous movies. But surprising about the CGI, there was one badly done CGI element that has been discussed a lot but overall the film looked fantastic as many people and critics have stated so not sure if you are just taking one bad element and applying it to the whole film?

I'd agree actually, that's a 9/10 movie all day. I think probably the first as well, the third is really good but not quite as, imo.

It just looked so fake. I know in reality it is fake but out of all the films to date I just felt so disconnected.

There was no Ripley, Hicks, Hudson and Bishop vibes. Just nothing that gripped me like 1 - 4.

I watched Romulus too, I'd give a 7/10, I enjoyed much more than Prometheus and Covenant. I liked the setting and visuals, it'd have been good to have seen more of the mining colony.

I think the problem with this set of 3 films is that you just don't care about any of the characters unlike Alien and Aliens where you seem to build up more of a relationship with them. That's a problem with films these days in general where they are faster paced so there's no time to get to know the characters.

I was going to watch this but was a little confused they were only showing #2 and not include 1 and 3.

Stretch (2014)

Second time I've seen it and I have to say it's one of those hidden gem films that had it's original theatrical release cancelled, went straight to digital distribution and never got the wider audience it deserved.

8/10

Still rewatching British comedies as nothing new tickles my fancy.

People just do nothing. 9/10.

Amazing for anyone who was around in the 90s, especially London. A few bits are a bit OTT and cringe, but they managed to get the urban side of things pretty spot on.

This is the one British comedy I recommend to foreign friends that never catches on. There's far too much MLE for non native English/London folk .
