What film did you watch last night?

Remember, remember, the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

Not going to be able to watch it tonight, so last night I watched V for Vendetta.

Absolutely love this film. To the point I've been hinting to my friend for a few years to sell me his screen used mask, cape, wig and hat from the scene with the citizens going to the houses of parliament. It's not one of the hero fibreglass ones, but I want....

The Bodyguard (1992)

After agreeing to watch the Whitney Houston biopic the other week, watching this seemed inevitable.

When I originally saw it back on VHS I thought it was full of standard movie tropes, characters and clichés. My option hasn't changed and it's even worse all these years later.

I asked my wife why she likes it and even she admitted it was a bit rubbish nowadays.

3/10

You inspired me to watch it again. Not seen it since it was first released. It was a lot better than I remembered it being!

Heretic - 7/10.

Enjoyed this for the most part. Hugh Grant was excellent. And the cinematography and some of the shots were nicely done as was the house. Some points were a little… ‘really?’, but came out having enjoyed it.

Watched this last night too! Looks great in 4k.

The Substance

8.5/10

Really enjoyed this, I know the last third wasn't everyone's cup of tea but I thought it was good.

Not sure how it could be improved, more backstory on the substance perhaps.

Not sure what is next on the horror fest. That I seem to be continuing into November.

Very stylistic and the Wachowskis style definitely fit it. Also not bad at all for a first time director too. John Hurt is excellent in the role of Sutler too. His dilated eyes are creepy as hell.

It's a pretty good transfer. Not reference, but there's plenty of film grain remining and the black levels are significantly better than the Bluray version.

I rewatched Alien: Covenant to see if I thought any more of it second time around. The answer was "not really" to be honest, but Michael Fassbender's attempt to carry the entire movie on his back is enough to make it watchable. He's so good. Sadly, everyone else is incredibly bland and forgettable, including Diet Ripley. For all its problems, Prometheus had a way better cast.

Howard's Mill - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10022716/- An abandoned piece of farmland in rural Tennessee may hold the key to multiple missing person cases spanning over 40 years. - 5/10 as the ending was somewhat unsatifying.

Leaving D.C. - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2647078/ - After 20 years of living in Washington, D.C., Mark Klein seeks much-needed solace by moving to the remote wilds of West Virginia. To ease his loneliness, he sends regular video updates to members of his OCD-support group back in the city. But Mark gradually realizes that despite his new, isolated setting, he may not be alone. From the endless woods surrounding his home, something else is watching. - 6/10 very good, kept my attention and pretty creepy.
