What film did you watch last night?

The Sixth Sense (1999)

I've seen it once before and my said she hadn't seen it. So we are watching it from two different perspectives. Surprisingly it's still a decent watch knowing the film's ending, but it does loose a lot of it's tension and thriller elements.

Watching it for a second time I'd score it 6/10.

My wife's score 7/10

My old ass - awful
The premise has some merit as a fun rom-com or something, but yeah, total trash unfortunately.. I’d give it 3/10 just as it had the odd bit of merit.

Megalopolis - rented for free last night, and 1/10 - it was just lost on me, the too predictable and cliche’d Roman politics overlaid on a modern city was just a total turn off.. when you can predict the plot twists 30 minutes ahead, it just makes it a boring and painful thing to watch.

I would take someone who rates films a 10/10 with a pinch of salt. A 10 means the film is perfect in every way and cannot be improved upon. If you rate a squeal a 10 but then say the first one was better does that mean the first one was a 11.
Agreed

How can you give a film 10/10 and say it was in the shadow of the old movie?

Watched Borderlands with the family. Very, very, poor. I just couldn't relate to the characters and the actors were sorely wasted,e specially the laughable character that Cate Blanchett played. I would award it a 3 out of 10.

First time it saw it was on DVD when it came out. Sadly I never knew there was a big twist, and being the weirdo i am, I started to watch the DVD extras first. So I spoiled myself

But no film is perfect, just as no film is irredeemable - does this mean you never rate a film 1 or 10 (or 1 or 5 on the usual star rating system), thereby limiting the number of choices available? The number's just a quick reference guide, you have to read the text to understand why someone rated the film the way they did (assuming they put any meaningful words to their score).

i'd choose to watch it again, hence the highest score.

It doesn’t track perfectly with everyone, but for entertainment I think any score out of 10 (or whatever) should be considered “an extent of a recommendation.”

1/10 - I recommend you avoid like the plague.

10/10 - I recommend you go out of your way to see it.

Therefore a ‘perfect score’ should not necessitate a ‘perfect film’.

I'm also variable with the score depending on the expectation of the film as well.

I was probably a bit harsh with 5/10 for Gladiator 2, and I've scored worse films higher - like say a low budget horror movie, because it exceeded my expectations and/or the budget.

So with the provenance of Gladiator, the director, budget etc etc my expectations of what the film should be is higher, hence my disappointment is greater and score lower.

Hell House LLC (from Apple Store)

A hybrid of a documentary and ‘found footage’ following the set-up of a Halloween haunted house maze and a tragedy that supposedly occurred on the opening night.

This starts out fun and gets surprisingly tense. Sometimes there is nothing more eerie than calling out down a dimly corridor and asking “is anyone there?”

Minor gripe:

The ‘hooded villains’ were kind of lame.

But the mannequin with the clown mask… very effective!

Anything ‘found footage’ does usually elicit an eye-roll from me at the gimmick but I guess there’s life in it yet!

7/10

I think a lot of people lose sight of what a marks out of ten score represents.

5/10 is not a bad score in my opinion, it's just bang average. Worth watching if you like the genre.

6/10 I rate as fairly decent but some issues. Worth watching though.

7/10 good film with maybe some minor discrepancies.

8/10 great film.

9/10 all time classic.

10/10 perfection and not really possible.

Anything less than 5 I don't regard as being worth watching.
