What film did you watch last night?

Total Recall (1990)

No not the god awful remake.

This is a not quite classic Arnie movie, it's not Predator, Commando and certainly not Terminator.

It's not bad though, although I don't think it's aged. Also think the first half is better before they get to Mars. Sharon Stone was very hot in 1990 though.

Back in the day I might have given this a 7 or 8 but realistically today........it was 34 years ago.

5/10
You’ve made me use the angry emoji reaction! I hope you’re happy now!

Where else can you hear such a range of Arnie pained cries and one liners like ‘Consider that a divorce.’ and ‘Screw youuu!’

I'm not sure what we're supposed to do with this information, but I live in the hope that one of these days, you'll actually tell us what you thought of a film after you've watched it.

I'll tell you about the film when I get time to finish watching it.
I'm not sure when that'll be.

Hopefully that doesn't spoil your day.

I can provide you with this small snippet based on the 35/40 minutes I saw - it was ok.

Interstellar (on Now TV)

Sci-Fi epic following a family man at the end of civilisation and a opportunity that arises...

I find it hard to rate this film. Everyone remembers it for the Sci-Fi, which is generally fantastic. But it's also incredibly emotional / powerful in places, with its themes of 'grief', 'lost opportunity' and 'tragedy of circumstance'. Those sections were better than I remembered.

It is slightly tainted by becoming a little jarring / daft towards the end:

'Programming' the watch... wut. I mean, really... how did he figure out how to control that :o

"Gravity" suddenly 'made sense' to him, I suppose.

... but it feels harsh to write off a high score just because of that.

Highly recommended, if you haven't seen it. The 'journey' and themes are outstanding.

Terminator 2 : Judgement Day (1991)

In my opinion this is the best movie ever made. It's got the perfect mix of action, acting, high and low points, great special effects, great music.

It's full of little clever scenes as well, when the liquid metal terminator gives the metal mannequin in the mall that looks, the fact Arnie carries the shotgun into the mall in a box of roses (hence guns and roses).

The first one is decent, but the second is a whole other level.

Alien Romulus (2024)

5.5/10 - Entertaining, but wouldn't watch again. Fantastic visuals and some great scenes, but let down by shallow characters and constant need to reference (or even just copy) other Alien films

Because of the recent comments...

Jingle all the way

Classic Christmas Arnie, cheesy but good 90s cheesy. Is it good? No lol but it's childhood nostalgia and if your in the mood for Arnie being goofy then it's mint

Put that cookie down! NOW!

Megalopolis - ancient rome in modern america. Not sure what the hell i just watched! big adam driver fan so still enjoyed it but it just made no sense. Looked lovely though. 6/10

Carry On Again Doctor - working my way through the carry on collection. This is one of the better "newer" ones. The original 3 or 4 had a certain charm that the coloured films lost somewhat, and looking at the list after this one it appears i dont have much to look forward to! 7/10

Life Is Sweet (1990)

Recommended after I watched Secrets & Lies.

It's similar in that it's a story about ordinary people and the lives they lead. Another well acted and well observed characters.

7/10

If you're enjoying Mike Leigh films so much, have you seen many Ken Loach ones? As they are similar in tone and usually very good too.

Favourites off the top of my head are, I Daniel Blake, Raining Stones, Ladybird Ladybird, Naked, Riff Raff, Looking for Eric

Megalopolis - I'm not going to put a number out of 10 as we didn't finish it.

I'll watch pretty much anything but by the half way mark Mrs EddScott was fidgeting and had checked out.

I'll finish it at some point but what I saw made very little sense and was horribly pretentious.
