What film did you watch last night?

For me the likes of Predator and Terminator are “serious” films, they don’t have any funny or light hearted bits for purely entertainment purposes, T2 was that first sort of blockbuster that added in a couple of bits (the thumbs up sticks in my mind).

Longlegs 5/10

Thought this was pretty underwhelming. I really like Maika Monroe and Cage has done some fun films lately but this one missed the mark imo. A boring police thriller mixed with a bad horror film mixed with bare bones supernatural stuff.

Just watched Carry on, decent action thriller.

I can see why people are comparing it to Phone Booth but to me it felt more like Redeye.

Nicholas Cage also looks like a character from Bo Selecta.

Even in T2 the "funny bits" were entirely within context of the story being told.

I watched Puss In Boots- The Last Wish 8/10 - really really good, loved the animation style and everything about this was well done. One of the best animated films I've seen in a while.

Then thanks to whatever datamining Netflix shares with Google the Critical Drinker review of Puss in Boots - The Last Wish turned up in my YouTube feed this morning. Watched it and largely agreed with him.

My brother said Running Man, I find it too cheesy, it is a product of the time. Total Recall is great, Predator just hits differently for me and feels timeless.
Running Man is very cheesy but also very entertaining. Same for Commando and Last Action Hero. Both great for entertainment as long as not taken seriously.

True Lies is also very good.

The day of the Jackal (1973). The original Jackal film. Not bad, but not great. 6/10. Going to watch the 90s version with Willis and compare. I recall the later being a better movie all round.

(Watched this 2 days ago but forgot to submit this)

Venom: The Last Dance - 5/10

Maybe I need to do a rewatch but this was a very disjointed mashup of a film. I love the first two but this didn't make me laugh much.

The film has characters that are just a waste of time. Stephen Graham as Mulligan - hardly in the film and of no significance. Knull - the apparent villian and he just sits on a throne throughout. He never even gets up as I recall let alone interact with anyone. I don't know a thing about him, nor do I care.

Hardy looks bored throughout the entire film compared to the last two. There are some good scenes in this but overall I found it incredibly boring. Not sure weather to add this to my iTunes collection now.

Carry-on

I think I saw an advert for Carry-On during Gladiator 2.

Overall, I’d give it a pretty solid 7/10. There’s been some buzz on TikTok calling this “the new Die Hard.” While I wouldn’t go quite that far, I will say it’s better than a lot of what I’ve seen in cinemas recently, including the aforementioned Gladiator 2.

It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely worth a watch.

Carry On 7.5/10

Really enjoyed this, solid action film. Interesting to see Bateman in a different kind of role. It has a couple of sus moments but overall I felt it kept things flowing well and had some nice twists.
