What film did you watch last night?

Kraven the Hunter 4/10
Not diabolical like Madame Web but still very meh, not sure why they needed to make a bland origin story about a Z-lister villain no one cares about.

Anora 7/10

Watched this due to the good reviews but being produced by Sean Baker had me worried. I hated his previous offerings (Red Rocket and The Florida Project)

Today i watched the new Daniel Craig film 'Queer'

Starts in Mexico in the 1950's with DC chasing after young gay guys to sleep with. He meets a guy he really likes but this young chap is playing hard to get. Eventually DC sleeps with him but the young man is still less interested than DC than DC is in him.

Eventually DC gets him to agree to go further south in South America as DC is an drug addict and he wants to go looking for a new plant that he's heard offers telepathic abilities to anyone that consumes it.

It then all gets a bit trippy.

Hard to score for me, definitely wasn't a bad film - 6/10

Mufasa : The Lion King - standard disney film, average film, great presentation. 6/10

Kraven the hunter : Just so MEH although not Madame Web bad. 4/10

Moana 2 @ Stafford Odeon.

I went in not expecting too much but was nicely entertained and was able to switch off for 90 minutes. Some good new tunes and I liked the art style. Favourite track was the demi god (Maui) one near the end with the semi-realistic waves/props backdrops. It reminded me of the genie's song in Aladdin with the flashy backdrops.

7/10.

It's early days but I think Bob Iger is starting to turn Disney around with the recent animated movies.

Khartoum (1966)
I think I prefer the old classics, although I don't think they'd get away with that make up these days!

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim (2024) - 7/10

Not as epic or original as it could have been, but it has a good story and range of characters.

Although there was plenty of action and drama it lacked suspense and humour and ended up being a bit boring at times as it went through the motions.

It was also far too focused on the hero and the music, whilst great, was a bit overused and the name-dropping references at the end felt unnecessary.

The animation style was off-putting as it looked too static at times and completely out of place when superimposed over the realistic scenery.

Was tempted to go see it. Trailer looked good. But the length seemed excessive

Still not sure

Spaceman - 7.5/10 - off the wall sci-fi, adam sandler gets relationship counselling from an alien spider, I like movies that try to be different and I liked this.

Calibre - 9/10 - big budget? No. Well known cast? No. Gripping story, absolutely imo. Well acted and just felt like it all clicked together, great British movie (I assume it's British, all actors were British and it was set in Scotland).

Crap but better than I was expecting. 6/10. There no way MrsHB would let me buy a model like that in the first place!
I seen that the other day too, I know it had much to criticize but I still wanted to see the end. Yet another movie where AI is portrayed as dangerous, evil even, but I suppose portraying it as good wouldn't be interesting.
