What film did you watch last night?

Watched the second and third Matrix films recently, having not watched them since they were released.

They were better than I was expecting, unsure about the ending (did they run out of ideas?) but I think they're still a lot better than most current films.

7/10

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Took me long enough but watched it now. Can't fault it, a great Tarantino film to add to the collection. Satisfying session of cartoon violence and a really quite poignant "what if" final scene.

8/10

Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990)

I've seen the original many times but the sequel only a couple and not for a very long time.

To be fair it's not terrible, but it's not great either. It doesn't help that the introduction features Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck and so as the film plods on, I just kept thinking I'd rather have been watching Looney Tunes.

4/10

We also tried watching Galaxy Quest for the first time, but we only managed around 40 minutes before turning it off, it just didn't do it for us.

Now Dave Bautista I can’t fathom how he gets films, he can’t act at all as far as I care.
Watch Knock at the Cabin and change your mind :)He’s not going to win an Oscar but it showers some range. Decent thriller too imo.

We watched Squaring the Circle, the Story of Hipgnosis. 5/10. Decent doc with some good talking heads, but didn’t tell me a huge amount that I didn’t already know. Looked great though, and could have done with a bit more music tbh.

Really? It's a brilliant homage to and bit of a spoof of Trek etc.

Carry On (2024) - 6/10

A passable thriller with some good moments as it builds up the tension but too much of the plot defies belief to take seriously.

Slow to start but once it gets going it holds your attention, although the characters could have been more charismatic and the villains could have been more menacing.

The Christmas setting is barely used and the ending is wrapped up too quickly and conveniently, but it’s entertaining and doesn’t drag.

The film felt like a recruitment video work in aeroplane security.

I'm afraid so. I probably would've watched it all. If for nothing else but to say I'd seen it. But my wife was ready to quit in the first ten minutes, so we gave it more than a decent chance to entertain and it wasn't to be.

I will say that we very rarely watch comedy films, because in general we don't find them funny.

There's the odd exception for me, like The Life of Brian. But in general I'd find something like Pulp Fiction far funnier than an out and out comedy.

65 - Adam Driver takes on a 2 year mission to bus some people through space and pay for his daughers medical bills but crash lands on earth, 65 million years in our past! just before the meteor hits to wipe the dinosaurs out. So he's like, an alien. Nice to see the dinosaurs getting some payback, which jurassic park never thought of. But still a reasonably dull film. 5/10

Star Wars Ep4: A New Hope (UHD Bluray) - 9/10

I've seen this movie dozens of times, but this was my first watch in 4k with Dolby Atmos. Wow, its cleaned up fantastically, the only slight letdown is the added bits from the 1997 Special Editions havent aged as well. The film is still as great as ever, with great action and pacing.

Empire Strikes back tonight hopefully!
