What film did you watch last night?

I have the Laserdiscs too. A big boxset of the originals and a hardback book about Lucasfilm. Definitive Collection i think it's called.
The widescreen definitive edition? That's what I have. People think I'm nutty for picking up old laserdisc players for spare parts, and then I show them films like the frighteners and get it a little more. The one I completely lose people on is my insistence of hoarding the betamax films I inherited from my uncle when he passed on.

Yes that's the one. Bought it about 20 years ago as well as a player and a lot of about 30 films. Indy Trilogy, T2 and Die Hard 3 were all sealed too.

I love the Frighteners, big MJF fan. My wife doesn't get my collection Laserdiscs lol. Oh I wish I still had my childhood Betamax collection(mostly recorded off TV) and my parents player. It died about 26 years ago. Was one of Sony's first front loading machines.

You know I don't think anyone does, but it's one of those things that as a lad I always dropped into HMV to just admire their Laserdisc display back in the day. The first decent paycheque I got went almost entirely on buying their clearance discs when the technology was getting shuttered and I haven't stopped since - I still love it, I still use it - I have a 40" plasma in my study that it's hooked up to and it really does look glorious.

The Batman - 8.5/10

Haven't seen this since the cinema, really enjoyed it even the second time through. Definitely the best film version of Gotham City. It's a bit too long and the plot has a few weaknesses but the cinematography and cast is great. All credit to Pattinson, I had my doubts about him but I think he portrays a Batman early in his career incredibly well. Now I need to see The Penguin.

Bird - Mainly because im quite a fan of Barry Keoghan, he plays a young distant father to 2 children from different mothers living in a squat, the film follows his 12 year old daughter over a few days having met an "interesting" character, from the first 20-30 minutes i was getting ready to turn off as im not a huge fan of this sort of cinematography but stuck with it. it meandered along but then came a bit of a wtf kind of moment, not quite sure what to make of it and its ending, i didnt turn it off so i guess thats a positive and im still pondering it all.

The Man Who Invented Christmas - 7/10

The story of Charles Dickens trying to write A Christmas Carol in 6 weeks... Quite a nice movie. I like how his characters are imagined and interacting with him through the story.

Still got my Laserdisc player and over 100 discs (including Star Wars special editions). Can't bring myself to part with it despite not having played anything on it for years. It was a tech that was ahead of its time and the audio was better than dvd.

I only have 32 in my LD collection. Not added any in years.

That's my collection. Some great and some pretty awful, the bad ones were in a job lot I bought off Ebay years back.

Megalopolis. 3 / 10.
Coppola certainly lost the plot with this one. I've no meaningful idea what the film was about or the message it was trying to convey aside from some convoluted nonsense about living for today and not in the tomorrow.
Only saving grace was Aubrey Plaza being highly suggestive.

Well, if you ever do feel like parting with your collection, let me know. :D
