What film did you watch last night?

The Creator.

6/10. Enjoyable humans Vs. AI sci-fi movie with plot holes you could sail the USS Wisconsin through. Was possibly trying to convey some deep “What it means to be human” message, but I was too busy looking at the Poundland Blandrunner scenery to care.

The Gift (2000)

I've seen it once before and thought it was a good, solid film. A second watch hasn't really changed my opinion, it's got a great cast and they all do a good job. Maybe the only real criticism is the lack of originality and outright scares or drama.

7/10

Infinity Pool (2023) - Its definitely pretty out there, original story, gory in parts, some people may find it unsettling, I can see some people saying its funny maybe even silly (I didnt think this), parts of it are somewhat abstract. I like movies that try different things. 7.5/10.

The Last Showgirl - acceptable, didn't get the hype, didn't really feel like a film, Pam was good. 5/10

Marching Powder - Standard Danny Dyer fare. Football hooligan and coke fiend trying to turn his life around. 4/10

Mickey 17 - Good sci-fi/dark comedy about Mickey, an 'expendable' human on board a ship travelling 4 years to colonise a new planet. Everytime he dies he can be 3d printed and keep his memory intact so they experiment on him and stuff along the way and when they get there for research purposes - 7.5/10

Working my way through Batman V Superman but one thing that is getting on my **** ....

Amy Adams .... what a crap actress and she's playing the lead lady which for me has bought the whole experience down a few notches

I'm pretty angry actually
She teleports from location so much in that film that it's impossible to ignore.

Mickey 17 - Very watchable actually, different from the usual cinema fare this year, and quite possibly the most obvious-yet-not-credited Trump send-up I've seen so far this year.

Escape Room (2019) - 6.5 / 10

Cube cum Saw mashup (though not with the gore levels of either) set around a deadly Escape Room premise. Enjoyable, even with the few silly situations and illogical actions by the protagonists. There's a 2017 film of the same name, not seen it but it's not as highly rated as this one.

It was also in the similar vein and enjoyment to Fermats Room https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1016301/

Wishmaster (1997) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120524/

I can't recall where I saw a clip of this (must have been YT), but I thought Andrew Divoff captured the menacing demeanour so well (superb smile for the role), that I had to check it out.
Aside from the aging visuals, some of which I still thought looked quite decent to be fair, it was an enjoyable 90 minutes that didn't outstay its welcome.

Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0156182/

More of the same, but again, enjoyable and doesn't run for too long (a little north of 90 mins).
As with the first, a bit cheesy in parts, but the cause and effect of the choices people make allow for some entertaining viewing.
Once again, plenty of creative visual effects; some work, others not so much.

Looking forward to trying out the next film in the series, though I don't believe Andrew Divoff is in any of the later ones. :/

Terrifier 2 - 6.5/10

Night and day difference to the first in quality and production levels, justifying every cent of it's ~10 fold increase in budget.

I really quite enjoy the silent mime style of Art with its associated humour. This series does a good job of paying homage to the 80's slasher/horror flick.

You'll need a strong stomach though, some of those kill scenes were just brutal and even made me squirm a bit.
