What film did you watch last night?

Last few nights watched :

Aritocats
Robin Hood
Beauty and the beast
Oliver and Company
Lion King
Alladin

All very good and still funny even at 22 they are all classics.

Watched The Book of Eli this evening and thought it was a great film - would give it 8/10.

Possible spoiler alert!

The twist towards was great and there were plenty of cues giving it away thoughout the film but because you are unaware of it, you don't stop to give it a second thought lol.

List of films I've seen recently.

  • The Kings Speech - Brilliant, really enjoyed it, despite thinking I probably wouldn't.
  • True Grit - Loved this, Bridges is fantastic and the writing / direction are right up there. Fantastic.
  • Black Swan - Enjoyed it a lot, beautiful, really beautiful film. Portman is amazing.
  • The Town - Enjoyed it, had a very much a HEAT feel to it, really solid.
  • Tell No One - French. Brilliant. REALLY enjoyed this. Very good.
  • The Girl who played with fire - Good, not as good as the first but still very good.
  • The Girl who kicked the hornets nest - Again, not as good as the first, but still really good. Noomi :)
  • Ultramarines - Erugh.
  • The American - T'was quite good, enjoyed it.
  • Machete - BRILLIANT :D Loved it, fantastic.
  • Nude Nun's with guns - haha! Oddly amusing, lots of nude nuns though! ha
  • Exit through the gift shop - Really good, some amazing people and art. Main guy's proper mental, but I kinda of liked him.
  • 127 Hours - Decent, very solid and very good performance, beautifully shot, absolutly stunning and sounds brilliant. Just a felt like it all came down to one scene.

There are a few more, I'll do another update soon :)

Seen a few films new and old recently:

Predators - weird storyline which was probably a lot smarter than I was expecting it to be in all fairness. Filled with references to the first film, including an account of what arnie supposedly tells the military after surviving the course of the first film. I didn't quite get the "big and little" predator idea as the information presented was amazingly vague, but I guess thats how the characters would see it from their point of view anyway. Enjoyable watch regardless and a solid 8/10 for me

Resident Evil: Afterlife - Started off really badly but did get a lot better. I hated the 3rd installment of the series and the first 10 minutes sorted out the "mistakes" of that film and got my attention back for this one. Albert Wesker has the premise of being a truly superb "bad guy" in any sort of action film but I feel he was under utilised in his role in this film. The story line really didn't make much sense either, with a lot more than wesker being used from the resident evil 5 game, including the uroburos virus zombies and the guy with the massive axe, yet with absolutely no explanation as to where the normal zombies went etc lol. The ending of the film was truly AWFUL as well in my eyes and it felt that the film ended half way through and due to that, 6/10 tops

Boogeyman 2 - Vaguely remember the first film and being a horror fan I thought I'd check this one out. Started off really well with an interesting plot and very well done tense death scenes etc. However this soon trickled away and the plot went completely out of the window with timeframes, present and also past storylines then making absolutely no sense. It then made the massive mistake of going from horror to teen slasher garbage, with an amazingly predictable ending lol. Due to that 3/10

Poltergeist 2 - What can I say, a truly disturbing sequel to a classic! Very very dark film if you remember the events of the first, plus watching this on a second run through. The incarnation of the demon priest guy is truly freaky looking anyway, but his scenes where he quite literally stalks the young girl are quite unnerving to watch, even now. Still a very entertaining watch and the cast all play their parts beautifully well, allowing me to pretty much empathise with all of them. 9/10

The crazies (newer one, not classic) - George A Romero doing his usual I suppose. Very predictable film and didn't really bring anything new to the table when it comes to the horror franchise, although plot wise it was "okay". For a pregnant woman though, she really does get thrown around a lot etc with absolutely no problems, which for me shatters the immersion attributed to this film. 7/10

Went to see a screener of The Fighter on Tuesday.

Brilliant film - was hooked from the opening scene. Bales performance was epic, it's hard to believe you are watching batman. The films a lot funnier than expected - especially the ugly sisters.

8/10

The Magnificent Seven, on the big(ish) screen!

Very good, very enjoyable feeling but I couldn't help compare it against "Seven Samurai" which I felt was the better, albeit slower and more zany, film. For example, while it was the Magnificent Seven it seemed more like the Magnificent Three plus the Underused Four as all they seemed to do in the film was die. The other thing that bugged me was near the end when their captors set them free then gave them back their weapons. Finally there seemed to be quite a few scenes added in because they were in the original but were never carried through . Overall though, it was still a decent watch and the scenery looked pretty epic on the big(ish) screen.

The Untouchables 9/10, one of my alltime fav movies:

Great movie and one everyone should watch atleast once.

one of my all time favs.

i watched the Kings Speech last night.
the performances were very very good, and the actors deserve any awards they might/will win.
however the movie itself was good but not excellent. 7/10

The Ghost Writer 2/10 Horrible film, was so bloody slow moving and nothing ever builds up to anything. Polanski filmed every little sequence it was unbearable really. I actually thought he was going to film Ewan Mcgregor writing the whole book that the film is about. The big reveal at the end was so underwhelming that you simply will not care.

The Collector 9/10 Really impressed with this, possibly the 1st horror film I have really enjoyed in 2 or 3 years. Great tension, fantastic little traps and set peices and just enough gore too.

Big Fish. Great family entertainment, light and humorous but also occasionally dark, bit of a tear jerker if your that way inclined. Yep, I shed a couple.:o

Beautiful looking throughout and superbly acted.Albert Finney,Ewan Mcgregor,Helena Bonham Carter and Jessica Lange. The giant was awesome!
