What film did you watch last night?

Just finished watching The Expendables and after watching really good movies like Shutter Island and The Book of Eli, it was average at best - 5/10.

I think Sylvester Stallone is definitely getting on a bit...:D

The town 8/10 excellent film, really grity and solid story as said above, a real heat type style to it, ben affleck got it right.

unstoppable, 6.5/10. enjoyable enough and always worth a watch with denzel in it, 6 is too harsh but any more is a bit too generous.

also have to agree about the book of eli, great film and a solid 8/10.

I watched cargo but I'm not really sure what they were getting at.

Something about the idea of utopia. Was alright to watch but it seemed a little like they ran out of money so had to think of a different ending half way through filming.

Love and other Drugs

We actually enjoyed this film, the story was a bit ropey from time to time but there were some really funny moments squeezed in there too.

I didnt hate Jake Gyllenhaal anywhere near as much as i thought i should, oh and Anne Hathaway's boobs are amazing.

7/10

The Lives Of Others (Das Leben Der Anderen) - German film about the Stasi and its effects on both the watched and the watchers. 9/10.

Actually watched this in my history class the other day...one of the most awe inspiring films ive seen. Just amazingly well written and acted out fantastically.

It really was a Dystopian society and its amazing to think that east Germany could have been so easily compared to George Orwell's 1984 , just a shame its not a more recognised film.

I also thought the ending was fantastic...and im kinda ashamed to admit i almost had a tear or two right in the middle of my history lesson by the time it finished haha :D.oh and the scene where they were in the cafeteria and that guy was cracking a joke was just awfull to watch.

(its all subtitled but i think it actually adds to the film)

Think im going to watch Devil tonight though. the one about the elevator. any body seen it and is it good? :)

Glad you liked it. Having seen it I'm now looking for other films set in East Germany during the Cold War. :)

I did enjoy the final scenes, they were quite poignant I thought. Especially the last line the main character says. :)

So A-Level History class?

Thought it was extremely good the way it looked at both sides of the story.

And yes, was an introduction to the cold war and the idea of Utopia/Dystopia. The Cold War's a fascinating subject! :)

Just finished watching The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg and Christian bale. Quite a good movie, not enough action though, it flew pretty quickly too.

Watched Rain Man last night, thought it was a fairly odd film. Tom Cruise came attached to his brother fairly quickly once his luck turned around and I did genuinely feel Cruise's frustration at times, although he acted like a dick. Saying that, Dustin's acting was amazing and it was really sweet when they were getting along so the film got better and better until a rather anticlimatic ending in my book.

3/5

I appreciated that in the film. You could see what a pathetic boring life the main character led. I liked the subtle suggestion about what happened to the guy in the end scene who had the radio and how/when he got there. ;)

So West Germany = Utopia and East Germany = Dystopia? :p

Indeedy the Cold War is a cool subject. I'm quite keen on German history and WWI/WWII as well. :)

Yeah found that rather disturbing, didnt want to say in my last post as i didnt want to give spoilers but you worded it well hehe. The original scene was just awful to watch though. :(

And not necessarily. It was mainly about the differences between the communist and capitilist regimes and what we could associate a Utopian/Dystopian to either. Obviously western Germany was Dystopian in our eyes but from another's perspective (such as some communists) it could well be seen as a Utopia free from the majority of crime and such. Was just a nice little introduction to the topic really to get us warmed up for contrasting communism and capatilism. Plus we had just finished our course work so it was a bit of a treat hehe. :D

Lol. I was trying to word it in a way that you'd understand but anyone who hadn't seen the film wouldn't get. :p

It was just a silly comparison. :p I remember discussing utopia in a German A-level lesson once. I think I said that utopia would never happen properly because if it did there'd be nothing for society to improve and we'd all get bored or something stupid like that. :D

Buried

Crap film about a guy in a box.....

NOT!!

Loved it! Having to go thru that (not the political crap obviously) and seeing that video must really mess with brain!

7/10!
