What film did you watch last night?

Watched the Dark Knight blu ray trilogy with the wife. She hadn't seen them before as she'd assume they'd be gash like the Spiderman films.

Great to watch them back to back, the last half hour of the final film is awesome.

I'd give them 8.5/10 as a set, the first film doesn't quite have the same feel as the second two. Still, an unmissable collection.

We also watched Wild Things as it was on TV afterwards. I've always remembered the film poster, but had never watched it before, besides 'that' scene when I was about 16 :p

What a strange film, has a very unique feel to the direction of the film. Great fun to watch, wish I'd seen it sooner.

6.9/10. I'd say the most similar film in is Talented Mr Ripley (although Ripley is better than this)

Skyfall

Was OK, plot seemed rather stupid and just like the last one it didn't feel like I was watching a bond film, casino royale is still the best one by far IMO. Probably liked this one more than qos though.

6/10

The Master

what a film, its odd, intriguing, rubbish, fascinating all in one go, I got fed up with it, but wanted to finish it. what a strange movie. not sure how to score it at all.

Just finished watching this. Can't believe I nearly went to see this at the cinema. Magnolia is in my top 10 films but I just couldn't get into this at all. Just goes to show that great performances does not make a great film.

4-10 and 3 of those are for Hoffman and Phoenix.

I said it when I saw Skyfall, and whilst I really enjoyed it, it came across as a "filler" film from CR & QoS, to what they are going to move ahead with in the future, a sort of lining up all your pieces kind of film.

While Skyfall wasn't as good as CR and had plenty to find fault with, it was interesting and the pop video visuals were entertaining I suppose. QoS on the other hand was utterly forgettable imo.

This post on IMDB pretty much sums up my thoughts:

I don't remember that well the very old ones but this one was had the most illogical and over-the-top script of all Bond movies at least from the past 20 years. Yes the actions scenes and great cinematography was there, it was to be expected - but the whole script was just pure joke intended to simply stretch out a movie for over 2 hours with no logic whatsoever.
The whole idea was for the old agent to kill M.
So he pretty much blew-up half of London following an elaborated plan of world class computer hacking and international chases - for what ? So he can get on a subway station.
His whole scheme which was planned for years, as we're told in the movie, was just to have him do all the illegal stuff including stealing the most important info in UK, so that Bond would get on his trail, get involved with his woman, which he had been taking care of since the stone-age, so he would then be taken in by BOND. Let's not forget he blew up one of the most defended buildings in the world just so the MI6 would move into the Churchill's tunnels so he will get arrested and kept there, followed by a very elaborated computer hacking scheme that would allow him to escape FOR THE SOLE REASON OF HIM GETTING ON THE LONDON's METRO, ride a few stops and then get off at the place of M's hearing in order for him to storm in and shoot her.
WHY DIDN'T HE SIMPLY GO ON THE DAMN METRO IN THE FIRST PLACE ??? He was after all a brilliant agent that could simply start off a WW3 if he wanted with just a few clicks.
Also the last part, when Bond throws the knife in his back - he took the time to turn around to Bond, stare at him for 30 seconds and then DIE. Why the hell didn't he just shoot M right there and then?? He had the gun to her head and after all, them dieing together was his whole agenda after all.
I don't even want to go through all the idiocy involving attacking the house - by first sending in a few armed retards that he knew Bond will simply kill - just to give him access to some fire power. And then - riding in with a huge military helicopter which he could just use to blow up the whole house in a matter of seconds - BUT NO.

I perfectly understand what BOND movies are alike and don't expect much logic and reason coming out of their scripts but this crap was pretty much insulting. I am now wondering which movie was worst: Skyfall or Taken 2. At least Skyfall had some nicer FX...

As a closure - I think Casino Royale was the best BOND movie in the past 2 decades by a very HUGE margin.

Don't get me wrong, I thought the plot was pretty good and liked how the bad guy was always 1 or 2 steps ahead of M and Bond, but as explained above it just seemed stupid to go too all that trouble to kill one person :p The acting was great though. Action scenes weren't as good as CR either.

The Wild Bunch - Classic late 60's western. I enjoyed it but am not a real fan of westerns so it wasn't great. Whilst watching it I thought it must have been pretty ground breaking when it was made and having read up a bit about it it really was a defining film and made more interesting because of that. 3/5

Cloud Atlas 6/10 (should be higher, but I am thick :()

It confused the hell out of me. I wanted to love it, but I just didn't get it!

I thought Tom Hanks was brilliant in it and it really showed his acting skills. Hallie Berry was a bit 'meh' but I don't really find her ground breaking anyway IMO

I thought I understood the story line, but as the film went on I got more and more confused! What was the actual point? Can someone summerise it for me please - cause I would like to like it, but I just didn't get it

Band of Brothers , not really a film but got the box set several years ago but couldnt be bothered watching it.
Started watching it yesterday on episode 8 now , wow is this good ordered pacific after the 3rd episode.

Looper 7/10

It had some great parts in it mostly from JGL who plays the part superbly, but I felt the overall story was a bit disappointing - I felt they could've done something more unique towards the end..

The Hooligan Wars - 3.5/10

Watchable (just), made in UK film about a promising footballer whose career is cut short. With money tight and a kid on the way he buys an ice cream van but soon starts upsetting a few people while trying to sell ice cream and make a bit of money.

Not much in the way of football hooliganism so the title is a bit misleading.

On the topic of skyfall, check out "Honest Trailers - Skyfall" on youtube :D :D :D (can't link due to a swear word :o :()

That was a fairly good job of summing up Skyfall for me, its complete crap, with a woeful story and the action was all crap. It took all of 3 minutes to realise the film would be terrible, bad banter with the british chick, a guy with a hand gun with a ridiculous clip rather than carrying something sensible, and cops on dirt bikes, crap chase and rubbish fight on a train with zero logic and everything that was about to happen being painfully predictable and stupid.

Ha, first one of that 'Honest Trailers' series that I actually agree with. Been looking for a way to sum up that final scene with the remote Scottish house, their 'explanation' was spot on.

Ouch, as many people have discovered, The Pacific is a completely different ball game. Don't expect anything like the quality of BoB, at all, it just doesn't meet that standard (although I admit it matures a bit in the later episodes).

I like the majority of their honest trailers, although they haven't been quite as good since that new "voice" guy joined :(

The prometheus one was hilarious! :D
