What Restaurant did you eat at last night?

Saturday night we went to Petrus which was excellent. The Black Forest dessert was a real stand out. Portions were a little on the small side but they all tasted great.

Yesterday afternoon we went to Hawksmoor Air Street for a Sunday roast. Delicious.

Assador 44 (new resturant in Cardiff)

Really good steak. Me and the wife shared 1.1kg of Rubia Gallega chuletón from the dry ageing cabinets.

We normally just end up there for the cocktails, a pitcher or 2 of long island ice tea and they could serve dog food and I'd probably still eat it :o

The drinks are pretty decent. Got a free pitcher of Sangria after complaining, so it wasn't all that bad I suppose:D

Hawksmoor Seven Dials on Friday night, never lets me down, amazing rib eye, table shared a ton of sides so everyone got to try a bit of this and that. Side of maple bacon was very good. Missus is taking me to Hawksmoor in Manchester in November for my birthday so looking forward to that, but I've been recommended to try El Gato Negro, anyone been? Looks very good.

Seven Dials is my favourite, proposed to my fiance there earlier this year! Think I found out about it from this forum, hoping to go again early September. Manchester also superb, enjoy!

Yeah Seven Dials is my favourite too, we went to Manchester shortly after it opened and I thought it was excellent. We'll probably stick with it but I'm very tempted by El Gato Negro on King St!

Ristorante Dino, an understated and amazing traditional cuisine restaurant in Florence. It's up there in the top 50 or so restaurants in the area but it's so well priced too.

We had meat balls appetisers. Home made ricotta pasta first course then 1kg of BBQd T bone steak sharer for main. Accompanied with a local Chianti of course.

Couldn't knock it really, we didn't just eat,we gorged. I was initially searching the fine dining multiple course tasting venues but I'm glad we elected for less high brow and just good hearty Italian tbh

I'm taking the missus to Florence at the end of October. I'd appreciate any tips on eats and drinks
When I'm back home and on the laptop I'll give you my personal input if you wish mate. I'm of course no food and wine tasting expert but we have visited a wonderful vineyard and some fantastic restaurants. We've driven into the city from our rural hotel too so if you're driving, my experiences may be of further use.

Generally, south of the river is less touristy for food places. As always with Italy it's hard to get out of the touristy "pizza and pasta" generic places.

Our two favourites were Hostaria il Desco and Il Santo Bevitore. You should try a tripe sandwich at da Nerbone if you're feeling brave (I had every intention of doing it, but couldn't face it when I got there :p). The Mercato Centrale is excellent with a lot of choice of food. Good for an easy lunch.

Cheers, guys. We are staying on Santa Croce Square and may hire a car to go elsewhere (it's truffle weekend while we are there and I want to go to San Miniato). Have also planned a Vespa day tour (one each) including visits to an olive oil farm and a vineyard. I considered the 3* place Enotica but was put off by dress code and €275 per head without wine.

I'll reply this whilst I remember then and it will give you something to think about.

Consider a visit to the Avignonesi estate in Montepulciano. €95 gets you a delicious four course meal with pairing of 7 wines (although we had more than one top up on all of those! - a bit of bravado and friendliness with the waitress ensured us that). You get the tour of their old winery buildings first before being led up to a lovely dining conservatory that looks out over some stunning vistas. The tour and meal is quite intimate a with maximum of 14 in your party, your a table is your own as well of course. We thought it was great. If you don't want to eat you can just do wine tasting for €20 and no need to book with that either.

The food was borderline fine dining, mind me being a prat after all the wine, that dessert was chefs little tasters to match their unique sweet wine. It's all organic and natural. Their sweet wine ferments above ground in the heat, purely grape and sugar...it was more like a liqueur!

They open reservations 11 months in advance on thye 1st of the month at midnight. I signed up for the waiting list a couple of days ago and just as I was off to bed last nught got an email saying I had a reservation.

We'll make a trip specifically for it, it'll be part of my girlfriend's birthday present.

New(ish) Indian restaurant just up the road from where I live. Really great meal and no flock wallpaper in sight.
