A farmer who received China's first face transplant after being mauled by a bear said he had been discharged from hospital but would need further surgery to adjust a lopsided smile.
Half of Li's face was scratched out by the bear he encountered while looking for a lost sheep in the mountains near his village in 2003. His face was severely damaged, and he also suffered severe injuries to his arms and legs.
Li said he could not eat, drink or smile like a normal person and shied away from the world to avoid embarrassment, but following the partial face transplant, he was functioning normally again.
