Sure, its us that needs to wake up. The people following the 2000 year old religeon
What relevance does 2000 years have to do with anything either your religion is correct or its not. How long others have followed it is irrelevant Islams 1400 years old Judaisms 3000(?) years old Buddhisms 2600 years old. Are all these other ancient religions correct cos they've been around forever?

Your need to bolster your argument with an irrelevant factoid does not reflect well on your faith.

Lets not go insulting people because of the age of them. Really does my head in when people do that, some guy replied to me before saying he would have given me more respect if I was older. Stupid stupid comments, and things like grow up kid? My mate used to say that to people, its kinda old... doesn't wind people up anymore.

Lets not get into personal insults as this is going to get closed very quickly otherwise.

To learn what? Learn that other people believe what they have been told to believe in?

Or

Learn something which is true......

It depends how the person hearing it thinks, and what they believe in.

You could try so hard to believe in Christ and in the end you would think "what a waste of my time". Remember, faith is not given to everyone. Without faith there is no hope.

There's a contradiction right there. I thought we had free-will to choose to belive or not... oh wait, only a special few are allowed to believe now. Excuses, excuses.

Where is O RLY owl? ;)

I hope its here tomorrow also, while its gone very off topic its very interesting reading. You have to wonder though, if you do what your 'god' wants then what about people who blow things up or commit crimes against other countries/people.

Their belief is so strong that they do really awful things, yet surely they are still going to expect to go to a heaven with their god, because they have done what they see he/she/it has wanted.

I choose to have faith in myself rather than a supposed higher being and I feel I am much better off for it.

Me too.
I don't believe there is something higher as I have no proof of it. I don't classify myself an atheist or agnostic. I merely HOPE there is something after death because it comforts me to know that maybe i'll get to see people again as i'm sure the majority of people who succomb to religion fundementally also believe/hope.

Religion is tosh, humanity would be better off without it.

Really, thats xian dogma is it?Faith - the ability to believe that something is real inspite of the lack of evidence. cf Hope - the desire that things will improve.

Don't see how the first is a requisite for the later.

I think you are blinded by the truth.

Oh dear, there seems to be some sort of paradox here. SO, we're trying to get to the truth by having faith which we are given. THis faith will then allow us hope, which we can use to get us through the church grind until we reach the truth. But somehow if we use what we know to be true, it's blinding us?

You've allready said that upthread, nobody here apart from you understands what you mean by it. Would you care to enlighten us? Also would you like to address the issues raised in my earlier post: firstly your parsimony with faith is not standard xian theology. And secondly: faith does not beget hope.
