Who here owns a Fiesta ST?

Anyone here give me any gearbox advice ? I have a 330 BHP Fiesta St with a trick diff. but i can tell the gearbox is going to Die soon and its also Geared to short now for the power my car has.I literately struggle to change gear fast enough.
Its one area that i need to spend money on before i go 2.3 forged in the summer. Also hitting the rev limiter in 5th on track days is a little annoying :) and far to easily done.
Is there a 6 speed box in another ford that fits ?

Cheers Guys

No 6 gear option for the Fiesta. A MTX conversion will allow taller gearing as well as an almost bullet proof gearset. The IB5+ will struggle with that power, hell even mine is almost dead after 10 track days.

There is a guy called Simon (Si) on FiestaSTOC and a few other forums that sells kits. Also on a auction website too. He is currently building a 350-400bhp Turbo FiestaST.

My car has broke again.

I was investigating a noisy wheel bearing, and as i jacked the car up, gearbox oil started flowing out a damaged oil seal on the opposite side. FML :(

Is Plastidip, or something similar, something you can buy in a hardware store? Struggling to get myself some. Black is sold out on their own website and on a certain auction website.

Has anyone any good suggestions for actually making an ST handle anyway decent? On the dry it isn't too bad but on the wet it is rubbish... it just feels so twitchy and throws the backend at about 30mph! This is ok if you get the lock thrown on quick enough but you could find yourself doing a 180 spin very easy. I have real cheap tyres on it which probably explains things but there must be some other nice upgrade options to keep the thing on the tar better.

Wet/Winter tyres?

no, just better ones. Continental CS3's, Rainsports, Goodyear Eagle F1s etc.

Ive never had the rear end sliding (unless i purposely unsettle the car) around in my car and i drive like a absolute tool. Can i ask how you what you are doing when it begins to slide? Are you jumping off the throttle mid corner? :D

Errr, sometimes driving like a tool also... purposely unsettling it happens occasionally but it can just happen if you are cruising along and lift off if you close in on car in front etc.

I have Kumhos on the front and some utter rubbish (£40/each) on the back. It is terrible for pushing the nose on the wet too. You can have the wheels pointing into the corner and she will just head for the hedge. Not really fun.

So if I put the **** ones on the front then will I not get even worse nose pushing etc? I was wrecking down some country roads the other night - a mate was in a bog standard diesel megane.. i came into one corner at similar speed, he just flew on round no bother and the car with 60+ bhp more just headed straight on with wheels spinning in the muck yet the wheels pointing for where I wanted to go. I knew the tyres weren't great but would have expected some sort of decent handling!

You know you're forcing understeer because you're giving too many beans?

My ST handled like it was on rails. Change the tyres to some decent rubber, you can't blame the handling of the car when the only thing it's connected to the road with is the terrible tyres.

Perfect candidate for IAM training?

Even my ST on mediocre tyres handles like it's on rails, have to push really hard to break traction even in the wet, much more than is suitable in day to day driving. I suspect either your car's broken, you're exaggerating or driving like an absolute phallus :D

But seriously though, as has been said before, look at some better tyres if you find it that much of an issue, the Rainsport 2's get great comments for these in the wet :)

why are you ragging it down lanes that are dirty? the megane probably has proper tyres on it. Stop ragging your car around until its got some proper shoes.

also, you say you have rubbish tyres on the rear yet are understeering but also getting oversteer. What are you getting?

I think I am getting all sorts of combinations to be honest! I will get new rubber sorted before I say anymore. When I'm talking about putting the boot down I'm not talking extreme here... in the dry she will stick to the road no problem but I think the issues are in the wet. I just can't trust the thing.

How cack is the clutch cable/pedal design.

Had a clicking noise from the clutch pedal, had a look at it, no clip or anything retaining the plastic cable end. It was moving side to side on the clutch pedal arm, almost coming off. Disaster waiting to happen!

Stuck a couple of tie wraps around it and will try and get an E clip or something for it instead, there should be a hole in the arm to put a clip through to retain it properly imo.
