Who owns a Golf GTD / GTI / R?

nice, dsg?

Yep and I'm so glad I got it.

Not used the paddles yet but in sport mode it is brilliant. First automatic so a bit odd at first but quickly got used to it.

Car feels really well made, it looks great in blue in person and seriously quick :D

Hi guys,

Just wondering whether anyone's had any issues with their cornering lights? My 14 plate GTI came up with the cornering light error message last night, along with the caution symbol on the dash, and has done every time the headlights have come on automatically since. I was hoping it was something as simple as a blown bulb, and thought I'd be able to diagnose it by simply turning the wheel from side to side while the car was running, and seeing which side didn't light up, but it seems the car's either deactivating the cornering lights with that error message up, or there's a bigger issue, such as a control card, relay switch etc.

Does anyone have any experience of this issue, or should I bite the bullet and get it into the dealer?

Many say it is only one of static cornering bulbs have blown when they have took it to a dealer. In the daytime they do not light up anyway in bright light unless you cover the main light sensor on the windscreen and the secondary one on the rear view mirror. After covering the sensors I turn my ignition on but not start it and put the car into reverse and you can get out to look as then both should light up. I exchanged mine for LED ones now and they are much better and brighter.

Having had a tinker myself, and pulled out the driver's side cornering light, I've discovered that it is indeed down to a blown bulb, you can see bits of the element rolling around inside the glass of the bulb itself. Seeing as I need to order a new set of bulbs anyway, do you have any more info on yours? I might as well upgrade while I'm at it. Thanks. :)

I got these from Aliexpress, the rear of the heat sink needs cutting off to be able to fit the rear seal cap. I Just butchered mine with side cutters just to see if they would fit as they were dirt cheap :D The fan is still working on there so cooling is not a problem as they are not on constantly. Can bus friendly so no error codes and a vast improvement.

Before (with MTECH 100w bulbs)....

After with the LED.......

This is ours...no it hasn't been round the ring in our ownership :p

It's an 07 DSG with nav, heated leather etc - just missing Xenons really. Oh and it's remapped Stage 1 :D

Done my first 1000 miles already in the new R after a 700 mile trip down South.

In short, I absolutely love it.

Build quality is great, it feels like a premium car and is a very nice place to be. When in economy mode on the motorway it got relatively good MPG and cruised well with not too much noise.

Then if you want some fun you can quickly change the mode and the noise and power there.

The only negative I can really find is that I think it is maybe a little bit on the soft side when you're wanting to drive fast, with a little bit too much body roll. There's not a lot don't get me wrong, it just feels slightly of the soft side.

However..... I didn't spec DCC so it's not really a surprise so they've probably got he balance spot on to accommodate a range of driving.

I like my first one..I bought another

just moved to a 5 door

and in my previous one I had the cornering light error, it was simple bulb replacement as its 99 time out of a 100 the static cornering lights not the main xenon units..pair of bosch replacements and easy to change by yourself

Took the R estate racing again on Sunday, couldn't beat my PB of 13.1@112 - best time was 13.2@104. Going by the ET you can see traction was better but maybe the bad cross wind was enough to throw it.

A question for the MK7 GTD owners...

What kind of MPG do you guys get on a long motorway cruise at roughly 70mph, and which gearbox do you have?

Around low to mid 50s maybe, that's with DSG. Would have hoped for a bit more considering its 'only' a 4 cylinder, and the small tank is a bit annoying as well.

Thanks :) That's kinda what I had read but it's nice to hear it from an owner. I know the DSG isn't as efficient but I definitely couldn't live with a manual.

My head says that the 1.4T 150PS is the better option, but VW has made the GTD a really appealing trim level with the standard bi-xenon lights and everything else. There's pretty much nothing that needs to be added.
