Who owns a Golf GTD / GTI / R?

Ride with the 18's in anything but dcc-comfort mode for me is too harsh for daily driving. It's a personal thing, though.

My last 3 cars have had adaptive/adjustable dampers so I think that the chances of me going for a car without DCC are very low. However, it would be nice to be surprised by the stock suspension and save £830 :)

Test drive in the Golf R Estate booked for Saturday

Does anyone know what the Discover Pro gives you over and above the standard model apart from a bigger screen? I use Waze on my phone everywhere I go, and I think I've used the built-in nav in my S1 perhaps twice so I'm not really interested in it for navigation.

Is the ride with the 18" wheels and no DCC acceptable or is it on the firm side?

3d maps , the ability to play dvds , also car app connect will be as standard without ordering it separately.

I only test driven the hatch with the 19" alloys and DCC and even on race mode it wasnt that firm to be honest.

Cheers :) For £125 I'd probably get App-Connect even though it's not very good apparently. I have very little interest in 3D maps and the ability to play DVDs, although the 8" screen does finish off the interior nicely.

The 19" Pretorias are stunning, however finding a second hand estate with those, DCC and Dynaudio is pretty much impossible.

Yeah personally i think the 18" Cadiz alloys look naff , hence i spec'ed up with 19" Pretorias and DCC ;)

I have yet to see an Estate R in the flesh though.

Yes i believe so , i have have specced mine with the Discover Pro Nav , just in case Apple opens up Carplay and allow more 3rd party apps to work on the cars infotainment screen. (Waze for example)

Cheers, carplay is generally naff so I'll avoid the advanced nav if I come to order.

At the moment it is a bit naff , but im hoping they will open it up a bit, but now the Discover Nav come as standard on R's now is more than enough.

Really? I'm still having to spec it on sites like CarWow.

I presume if I spec a [Nav] version such as those listed on lease sites it will come with the posh nav or the normal one?

The Cadiz wheels are alright, but the Pretorias finish the car off so nicely. I could live with the 18s if I had to.

I've seen two Estates, but they're definitely quite rare.

Normal one

The Carwow site will still have the older MY16 spec listed on there hence why you can still spec it.

However any new BTO's will be MY17 will have Discover Nav (6.5 inch) as standard.

The ones with the [Nav] will come with the Discover Nav which is the 6.5 inch version , unless you spec it up with the Tech Pack or Nav Pro which will get you the 8.0 inch version.

I saw one yesterday, overtook me on the A417. I was hoping he'd boot it so I could have a listen but he didn't. Brand new estate in grey.

Tech pack gets the dynaudio doesn't it? I like my music so I think I'd be interested in it.

If they had the Pretorias in 18 inches , i would have gone for that. For me that was one of the deciding factor in getting the R vs the GTI. The GTI wheel options looks naff , esp the standard 18 inch Austins

For the £1295 RRP , the Tech Pack will get you the following

Dynaudio sound upgrade with the 400W Sub incorporated into the spare wheel in the boot.
Discover Nav Pro & Car App Connect :- 8.0 inch screen with , DVD playback , 64GB SSD , 3D maps.

I didnt have a chance to listen to the test car with the Dynaudio upgrade on it , but im sure it will be worth it on its own , even at £550 RRP

Yeah I'd only want the audio pack and not the nav to be honest. I think car sat nav is a long way off compared to using Google maps on my phone so the 3D nav doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Totally agree , i have used to Waze on my iPhone to be honest. However in the Discover Nav Pro has Google Maps incorporated i believe.

Was the R Estate available as a MY16, or was it released as MY17? I can't find a definitive answer, even on the vwroc.com forum.

If it was updated for MY17, what was included apart from the basic Discover?
