Who owns a Golf GTD / GTI / R?

None. I'm gonna upgrade to a MIB2 unit so I can have car play and I ll be happy. It's just a play thing - we have a skoda superb estate fully loaded for the distance/family stuff

Love my 2014 Mk.7 GTI, but currently having a bit of a nightmare with a fault and how a dealer's handling it. :( A few weeks ago, the driver's seat belt started locking intermittently when trying to put it on, which I initially put down to me simply tugging it a bit too hard (I know :D). However, the problem started getting worse, and it got to the point where on some occasions, I could only extend the seatbelt from the fully retracted position by gently pulling it out, a few centimetres or so at a time until it locked, then working it back in to get it to release, then trying to get it to extend again, and so on. It could sometimes take up to 10-15 minutes or so just to get my seatbelt on.

I reported this to the dealer on the 23rd, and was told the soonest they could look at it was the 7th, however, the car was already booked in for a service on the 26th anyway, so I asked that they take a look at it then, as the fault was making the car difficult to use. I was subsequently told that a new seatbelt was required, and one was ordered on a 7-10 day timescale, and that I should keep the appointment on the 7th, as the parts should have had plenty of time to arrive by then. Fast forwarding to the afternoon of the 6th, I called the dealer to check that the parts had definitely come in, in the hope of saving myself a wasted journey, and after having spent 20 minutes on hold being passed from pillar to post, I was told that I should bring the car in as planned, and that someone would call me back if the parts hadn't been received. As you might have guessed, I arrived on the 7th and went to the service desk to hand the keys over, only to be told the parts hadn't arrived, and they'd be in touch when they arrive. Not really much in way of an apology.

I've subsequently called the dealership to follow up on this to see if there's any hope of this being fixed any time soon, both on Friday afternoon and this morning, and have been promised callbacks that thus far, haven't happened, so find myself contemplating actually going in to the dealer to complain in person. It feels to me as if this is being afforded no priority at all considering that should the seatbelt lock up altogether, then I won't be able to drive the car. Furthermore, for all I know, this could also well be affecting the safety of the car, should I have an accident driving it.

Before all this, VW was a brand I've always associated with build quality and reliability, and this saga has somewhat knocked tha, so much so that when I come to replace the car in the next few months, I may well go to another brand. Really disappointed with how this has been handled thus far.

Which dealer was this ? Down south , the Peter Cooper dealers are generally pretty good , not really had a bad experience yet . My R will be in for its 1st service in a few months and hopefully i should receive a good service without any hassle.

Up north. The dealer in question's Warrington VW.

The thing is though, I bought the car from Inchcape VW at Altrincham, but have always taken it to Warrington for it's servicing simply because it's closer to where I live. I know this shouldn't matter, but perhaps the fact that I'm not 'their' customer could be the problem.

It shouldnt matter , but it might be worth flagging this up with VW CS , they are pretty hot with poor customer service within the network at the moment.

Just replaced my mk5 GTI with a mk7 GT. A bit slower (remap will get most that back) but much more comfortable, loads of tech and much cheaper to run :)

I had a 14 GTI but upgraded last September to a 66 R and simply love it. The power never fails to impress.

I think that's the next step, I'm giving them to the end of play today to return my call. If I've heard nothing, I'll get onto VW's head office tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the advice. :)

Tell VW that the malfunction of the seatbelt mechanism is a safety concern, you are unsure how the failure may manifest itself should you have an accident (will the inertial system fail completely) and that the dealerships attitude towards a safety critical item is contrary to VWs apparent brand values.

Well, despite the conciliatory noises and the promises of action, VW yet again fail to make contact. On 100% of occasions on dealing with VW, whether through the dealer or central customer services, they've failed in the entirely to return calls, and I feel I am literally getting nowhere.

What will it take for them to honour the warranty on the car, and how is this shocking level of service in anyway acceptable? :(

Finally got the car booked in.

I was supposed to get a callback by the end of the day yesterday, after escalating the issue to the head office on Thursday. By 5pm, I hadn't heard from the person dealing with my case, so called and was told they'd call me back before they closed at 6pm. They didn't.

I gave it until 10:00 this morning, then yet again, called to speak to them, only to be told that the person dealing with my case was now on holiday, so was put through to a manager whose since taken over dealing with the issue. He followed this up with the dealership, and called me back at about 10.45 to tell me that the seatbelt had miraculously arrived this morning (funny that..), and that the service department manager from the dealership would call me by 11.30 to get the car booked in, offering to follow up at 12.00 to make sure the dealer had been in touch. Surprisingly, the dealership still didn't get in touch, and when the manager from VW's CS followed up at 12.00, he was very apologetic, and so to avoid the embarrassment of yet another promised callback not delivered on, he called the dealership on the other line, and then put me through directly to get the car booked in, and the seatbelt finally fitted.

They've offered to valet the car as a gesture of goodwill while they have it, and will also pay for taxis or have someone drive me from the dealership to home, and collect me to pick the car up once it's done. I'd asked for the soonest possible slot, which is next Monday, so won't have a courtesy car available. At this point, I'm not concerned about that inconvenience, I just want my car fixed as soon as possible, with a view to possibly trading it in.

hi guys

i currently drive a 2016 bmw 320d auto ED plus.

i fancy a chance, there are few cars on the list i can change in Jan, one of them is VW golf GTD auto. got test drive booked next weekend.

My Golf R Estate lease car has been returned and the final costs have come through. Over 24 months the total leasing cost was £9.7k, so around £405 per month.
Overall I was pretty happy with the car - the combination of speed/power, interior space and grip was awesome. The only thing I missed was the increased interior quality you get from the higher end German cars... and the infotainment was rubbish - Touch screen  Fuel - Over the full 24 months I averaged 27 mpg with Tesco Ultimate.

Cost Summary below

A trip to Ikea - Four 5 meter length boxes, two 4 meter length boxes, a single mattress, a swivel chair, some other stuff and a child all in the back :)

Out of interest, what condition were the bodywork and alloys in to warrant £450 of charges? If you were so inclined could you have sorted it yourself for less?

Ouch, that ended up being very expensive compared with the headline deals. Though much if that was the significant return cost, what did you do to it?!
