MK5 GTI owner checking in (hooning on track on 16s is a laugh). RNS510 ftw.

Well I have been looking for a new (second hand) Golf the past 3 weeks due to my mk4 being way too much to repair now, I'm leaning towards a Mk6 GTD for the budget I've got. Missed getting one from Car Giant for £10000 which was a paddle shift DSG :(

Currently there are Mk6 GTDs going for around £12000 with the mileage, features I want but ..... I've now seen a Mk6 TDI GT 2.0 for £500 less with sat nav, parking cameras, an electric sunroof (which I wasn't really looking for so its a nice bonus), very very low mileage for age and full dealer service history ...... should I ignore that TDI GT and still stick with the GTD event though TDI GT doesn't have the nice GTD trim and the extra 30BHP ?

Loving my GTD so far, so what the best online community for MK7 GTD discussion then ;)

Very nice Headrat, I've had mine now for almost a year. July will be a year since I picked up my GTD. My spec is similar to yours, leather and upgraded sound system etc. Mine is in deep pearl black tho, love the car but can't say I'm a fan of the colour as when it gets dirty, it looks dirty lol.

I'm a member over at the golf mk7 forums, don't really post much but I do lurk and read the posts. Have got some decent advice from there at times.

Now I'm contemplating on mapping my GTD, don't get me wrong the 184 it comes with is pretty damn fun but I'm itching for more power and importantly torque. A fella over at the mk7 golf forums has had his mapped for a few mths now and keeps saying how much he loves it. Said he took apart a golf r which I'm not sure if he's exaggerating or what lol. Only thing I'm worried about is the warranty should anything go wrong. But have been told that the map can be erased so VW would never know it's there.

Planning to keep it for another year or so then possibly move up to the golf r or perhaps the rs3 audi. Going for a test drive this weekend with a friend who wants to buy one so will see what it's like.

He's either dreaming or talking about physically dismantling it with a spanner.

LOL possibly,...all I know is that before i plumped for my GTD, I did take a Golf R for a spin and it was pretty damn rapid so he is probably exaggerating a tad bit. I know that a remap on a GTD will take the bhp up to 220ish from 184 which isnt a lot considering but its the torque that goes through the roof. After the remap it hits around 500nm:eek:, so putting your foot down whilst doing 60mph should be interesting.

Also he says his mpg has gone up as well which is interesting.

Friend of mine who owns a VAG specialist garage has replaced an Audi A3 with a GTD.

Fantastic car, looks smart on the inside and out.

He much prefers it to the A3 it replaces, says he won't be chipping this one but we shall see!
