Why are you not vegan....

Did you read what I said about a pet hen, free to roam around? I said "What's not vegan about those eggs"

I gave you an example of why those FREE TO ROAM can be vegan. I even said if it's not caged.

Does that not show I already know what you are referring to already?
Sorry I thought you were generalising eggs, in regards to pet hens, it's actually more beneficial to feed the eggs back to the hen than to consume it yourself, but there's nothing inherently wrong with eating them yourself as long as the hen is well fed on decent feed that replenishes the calcium they use to make the eggs, the vegan anti-egg thing is more about exploiting the hen for eggs but I don't really see any ethical issue if the hen is being well fed with proper nutrients and it's being properly cared for and able to freely roam around

And this is the key point that a few people have made, encouraging people to eat less meat will have a more notable impact than trying to guilt everyone in to going vegan.

Yes, but their goal isn't to improve anything. It's to have a fight, to win and to force everyone to obey them.

It reminds me of that scene from Conan the Barbarian, which I've read was inspired by Genghis Khan. I don't know if it was, but it sounds like him. The best thing in life is to crush your enemies and to see them driven before you.

It's like the 5-a-day thing. The actual goal should actually be more like 10-15, but tell people that and they won't even TRY as it seems so daunting, so 5-a-day can be more effective at getting people to eat at least slightly healthier. (obviously crap like marketing smoothies as being part of your 5-a-day needs to get in the sea)

I've discovered a wonderfully convenient way to dramatically increase my veg intake. Frozen spinach blocks. Dirt cheap for a big bag with dozens of blocks and utterly convenient. Take out a couple of blocks, add them to whatever you're cooking, job done. The only disappointment is that I haven't suddenly become as muscular as Popeye :)

The absolute irony is militant vegans going for the stick route instead of the carrot.

:)

I use frozen spinach in smoothies. Don't even notice its there.

I like spinach so much that I sometimes eat it by itself as a snack. The only drawback to the frozen spinach blocks that I've found so far is that when I bought a bit too much food and had to wedge stuff into my freezer the blocks froze together and I couldn't seperate them. It was like the old days with a block of hard toffee and a toffee hammer.

Not really, the goal was to raise awareness of animal abuse, because while we're all aware we're eating dead animals, the amount of people that say the same stuff I used to say is staggering.

"as long as they've had a good life, and its quick death im ok with it" Well, they don't have a good life or a quick death in most cases.

They will eat themselves?

Dude, chickens are hardcore! I remember years ago one of my neighbours kept chickens. There was a really heavy storm one day and it drove all the rats from the field behind our houses into the gardens etc looking for new shelters I guess.

She let the chickens out for their daily exercise and it was an absolute massacre. Once they'd driven the rats out of her garden they where over the fence to ours to complete their killing spree. I mean there where bits of field rat everywhere.

Trust me, we know. We want to do something about it and a lot of us are trying our best. We want to get closer to YOUR side of the hence but that is NEVER going to happen if we are constantly being pelted with insults and accusaions.

No one is going to agree with you while you call us names and you keep taking the moral high ground on your high horse. Instead of making friends, you make enemies.

And i thought i was here because i am a member of a forum that happens to have a thread on veganism and i posted on that topic ,
A famous meat saying goes "you cant educate pork" ,after all you are what you eat ,no ? (this comment is quite specifically aimed ,not a scattergun at all meat eaters and not in response to above ,only my first line)
Tbf i have read some interesting viewpoints from some members who do still eat meat and gained some knowledge from veggie and ex veggie
Some however are just witless casuals who just post pictures of meat and at least 1 viciously cruel individual

Added bonus, well fed chickens (i.e ones that get to roam an eat properly) create eggs with much better nutrient / fat profiles, plus they taste so much better than chickens fed in huge farms.

Always worth the extra I pay to get them from my local farm.

I have neighbours with chickens and they seem to have a brilliant life i think if i had my own (rescue chickens) and the eggs were otherwise wasted it would be ridiculous not to eat them

Agreed. I do think @Johno please? Was well intended with his thread, though unfortunately as ever there's too much preachy behaviour and name calling in these sort of threads.

As someone who does follow an omnivore diet (Mediterranean style), we as a family have made an effort to reduce our meat intake but we won't exclude it completely, but we do buy 90% of the time from good sources (i.e. local farms and butcher).

I'll be honest I'm less bothered about an animal being slaughtered as I am about animal welfare before they are slaughtered. Perhaps that's slightly contradictory but it's just a perspective. However poor quality meats do need to be addressed and quality in general need to be reviewed and improved. However there's a cost involved.

There are very good vegetarian lifestyles and I think people should try and reduce highly processed meats and maybe go meat free 1 day a week. It all makes a difference. Will it solve environmental problems? No. Even if everyone went vegetarian, but it helps diversify your recipe portfolio and helps you discover new foods.

Are there any risks to these eggs vs the lion stamped ones?

Like would they be best for properly cooking vs like just being warmed in carbonara?

There's a few people local who do them from thier garden chickens with honour boxes, always tempted.

I think they're fine, as they're normally no more than a day old.

Technically it means you can't be sure, but for us, we know the farm/neighbours, we know how well the chickens are kept and we don't feel it's a risk. I wouldn't give undercooked eggs to my kids but personally I like eggs that are under done and after 6 years not had a single issue. But I have a solid constitution.

I think maybe moon man threw an insult (sorry mate xD) but I haven't called anyone a murderer/cow rapist or a bad person.

I made the provocative but factual statement that if you buy meat and dairy you pay for animals to be abused.

Yea I used to be like that as well, so much that I said right, im no longer eating factory farmed animals.

Well, that's great in theory until you go out to a restaurant, and realize you cant eat anything so had to have a halloumi burger, but then I never made the connection to the abuse happening to produce that either.

Which was silly anyway because since then ive been back to that place "Bills" it was, and they do a tasty plant based burger.

Boris is now pandying to the vegan zeitgeist - policy to have a vegan option in schools ... so how much additional budget does that cost (setting up for multiple options)
versus free holiday meals, or dietary benefit of,now delayed, policy to remove high sugar foods near checkouts &342 on them.

An ex partner of mine took me to a petting farm years ago to cheer me up and there was a hen eating a guinea pig alive!!

Well, the guinea pig had a huge open sore on its back and the hen was just standing on top of it, having a snack!!

We complained to the manager and demanded they take the guinea pig out and put it somewhere safe away from the horrible hen but it kinda ruined the day.
