Why is AMD quiet about black screens on 290x?

It seems AMD is in the dark about this.

Badum!

Tish!

Hello everyone,

Our Customer Support and Driver Teams have been aware of this problem and been working on it; they collected lots of feedback from our Support Forums, which has been very helpful.

I'd also like to thank those of you who have reached out to me directly via PM (i.e. weldon855) to provide more details about the issue.

We are going to release a new driver tomorrow which will fix the black screen problem you've been experiencing.

Thank you very much for your patience

Hello again everyone,

Apologies, we need a few more days to post the driver. I will continue to keep you informed on our progress.

Thank you in advance for your patience

Both these quotes were from the same AMD rep a few pages back so they are not in the dark about it. The fix driver could be coming today.

I'm in the same boat , if these drivers aren't out for me to test the card over the weekend I have no choice but to RMA it.

(which would probably be the smartest thing to do any way)

I'm gonna do a fresh install of W8.1, reload all the drivers and run the GPU at stock. If the black screen issue replicates itself, I will know it's the hardware / driver issue.

I can't exactly RMA my card either as I have taken off the stock cooler, and MSI don't seem to cover taking off the stock cooler to adds water cooling (Sucks) :D

I'm relying on AMD to fix this on the driver side. I have faith something will be done, I really hope it's not a hardware issue as I don't think MSI or the retailer will take the card back lol.

Boom you tried putting you Memory Oc back to stock? i've found that pushing the memory too far causes the BSOD, at least for me.

Would be nice to have a better warning than just a black screen and having to reset.

Gonna have a play with a fresh formatted system, all latest drivers and stock GPU. See if it happens again.

I just hope this is a driver / software conflict, because my chances of getting a RMA are very slim as I put the card under water..

The joys of being an early adopter :p

Im under water. You need to check your temps, if you are hitting high temps you will be down throttling your GPU automatically.

Under water whilst gaming, The GPU at hottest is 47 degrees. VRMS 41 and 37 degrees. Of course being that low there is no chance of throttling so you will be getting the most out of the card.

Again it all depends on the temps.

Edit: And my machine is nice and quiet :D

Thanks mate nice info and I keep forgetting the sound benifits :)

New driver is out :D

And if you are still experiencing an issue after the installation of the driver, please use our AMD Issue Reporting Form for the Catalyst driver, here is the link: http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D25AD12B3D

Thank you again for all your patience everyone!

Hello everyone,

The driver is up! :)

Will try them tomorrow - not sure I like the phrase "May resolve intermittent black screens or display loss" - implies lack of confidence (even if it fixes all issues AMD were able to repeat for themselves).
