Windows 10

I'm glad they left the option for the start screen there, the start menu feels so restrictive now. It's nice to have all the things you use frequently nicely spread out and grouped with cluttering the desktop. Navigating the start menu is so fiddly now.

I must be first person here that can't install Win10 Preview.

I get to the Wif-fi part where you can add your network and key or skip that and choose between express and custom settings and then it lockups,I got to sign in once before ii locked up.

I'm bit tired tonight so will do another bootable DVD or USB tomorrow, glad its my old backup PC, I would be very annoyed if it was my main PC.

Btw I don't blame Microsoft or Windows10 because its a preview build so bugs/install issues expected.

Glaucus take note ;) .

Installed the Preview on a VM. It seems ok, but nothing to get overly excited about. Just a tweaked Windows 8.1 with a Start Menu built-in. Not bad by any means, but not currently something worth writing home about.

Also I was hoping they'd add iron out some issues, such as not being able to read the titles on dark themes (which you can on Windows 7, that's THREE Windows versions ago) and being able to customize Windows colours from white to light grey (Light sensitivity syndrome and dyslexia so this is one of my coping mechanisms) which in Windows 8.1 I've had to use registry tweaks for, again Windows 7 has these options.

Also, as if to add a new problem, the current home folder on the File Explorer makes no sense, I'd rather it shows "This PC" then the Home folder when you click on the File Explorer icon, or at least the option to choose.

It is an early build however, so fortunately there is plenty of time for these issues to be ironed out, we'll see...

Remember this is a technical preview aimed more at enterprises. Which means a lot of the consumer features are not in as well as other features
e.g.
IE12 (with extension support)
Cortana
Notification Center
etc

Also a lot of the UI elements are still to be looked at. It shouldnt be compared to say the Windows 8 consumer preview as the Windows 10 consumer preview is scheduled for next year.

Watermark is gone, managed to unlock Realtek DTS etc, not easy on Windows 10 bit I got there :p

Anybody know when this build will expire? Can it be registerd and upgraded later on?

Definitely better than windows 8 in my opinion.

I would like transparency on the start menu, i think that would be good. At the moment it just changes colour to match the background.

The store is a lot better than windows 8 on first glance although that style of app is still rubbish and my first impression is that i am not bothered by touch based bs. I can remove the touch keyboard taskbar toolbar. Then I have nothing touch based.

Once I hear that Bf4 works then i think i may switch on the weekend to my main ssd.

I'm a bit worried they are going to shoot themselves in the foot with this. Hopefully it's just as it's a tech preview and are loads of bits yet to discover, but it feels much more like windows 8.2 than a 2 version jump.

It probably was meant to be 8.2.
The world seems to have forgotten they essentially showed this off in April.

Is there a hot key to full screen and window apps?
