Windows 10

Rumours that MS have signed off on RTM build 10586 and possible 10th of November release. Although I expect that depends how us insiders get on, hopefully not crippling bugs, should be out by end of week.

I mean generally. There is no fresh install W10 ISO available for me to just download and install? I've been plagued with update reminders for months, so I presume W10 has been released?

No, the update to allow using windows 7/8 keys as part of the upgrade rather than taking a machine ID is part of threshold 2 which is released next week, so until' that's released then an ios for that's released.

Well that's an annoying bug, watching a video got tiered shut the laptop, went to bed and at 3:30am on the dot, video started playing even when laptop closed. Assume it woke up to check for update or something. Confused the hell out if me for a minute.

Its back though isn't it.
It was only pulled due to it changing some of the privacy settings around, which set them back to default. Swear I read it's been fixed and it's been re-released.

Because some of us want a retail version I suspect and can't be bothered with faffing around upgrading, then downloading the ISO and re-installing (to get a clean installation). Only to end up with a non retail version of Windows 10. I rather like the little plastic card that I now have with a genuine full retail key on it;)

Each to their own. Be a boring world if we all thought and did the same thing.

It is essentially a retail version, and you no longer need to, the new ISO accepts w7/8/8.1 keys

Yes and have since release. As long as you register the key in the first 12 months. Initially that was via the upgrade but since the big update a few weeks ago, the new ios allows you to simply enter the win7/8/8.1 key. basically you wasted your money

New (2nd hand) laptop up and running I think.

But I don't get activation. The win8.1 which was in there wouldn't activate, win10 upgrade wouldn't work, and wouldn't accept any of my spare keys.

So got media creation tool, booted from USB, and it's activated from the bios stored serial. Which is same as the win8.1 which wouldn't activate.

However what does a yellow star mean, both graphics card and media storage have it next to them. It's not the exclamation and properties say they are working fine.

Anyone know how to fix this issue?
Updated my mums tablet to w10.
She signs on with a yahoo account. Which was fine. But it's added It to the email app as an outlook account with outlook settings. It wont let me delete it, can't change the settings, as settings screen for yahoo is totally different, just adding it again doesn't work.

How the helldpi tell w10 it's a yahoo account not an outlook.

It does require a Ms account, but you can assign any email address as an Ms account.
Been using the login since win8 it all works fine, sync etc. The issue is that in the email app it's set it up with outlook settings and there's as far as I can see no way to edit it, delete it etc.
And when you sign into Microsoft website using a Microsoft account everything's using the yahoo address. It's just the settings are wrong in mail app with no way of ltering it.

Download the media from Microsoft website (it's called Microsoft media creation tool)
Run that and burn image to USB/cd
Do a fresh install.
If serial is on bios, it should automatically detect it.
If w10 is already installed, it detects it if you start the install process from within windows.

Otherwise type on you w10/8/7 serial in when prompted.

Sadly they will probably just moronically special case each instance of this kind of incompatibility as it gets reported rather than accept the root cause and put more control back into user's hands.

Trouble is, the updates are more frequent and more important than they used to be. You can't have everyone running different versions of an os, that is meant to be update regularly. It isn't just bug updates anymore.
It's one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't. So I dint expect it to change.

They could make it smarter and not to do it if not on power, or give more options to delay by a few days or something.

 w10 is about to over take w7 on steam and Microsoft have released new stats the other week, now surpassed 200million active installs.
Their free upgrade certainly is working for them.

Now can they translate that to apps,

Steam
Win7 34.81% -0.82%
Win10 31.25% +2.44%
Win8.1 15.09% -1.41%

anyone else having this issue, been happening a few days, just got another win10 device and it's happening on that one as well, long threads on micrisift haven't found any real solutions yet.

"one or more internet protocols are missing"

only solution I've found so far is uninstalling driver and then installing again. this sometimes works for minutes or days.

so annoying.
