Windows 10

Win 8 and 8.1 haven't sold. Hence Win 10 give away. Win 7 still has 60% of market share.
Windows 8 is\was 2.9% and 8.1 is 13.2%

MS will never learn.

Competition out there is a lot tougher as well, personally I would not buy any Windows if I was not a gamer,Linux does it all for me in the other areas, don't get me wrong I like 8.1,Win10 etc but gaming is my main focus on Windows.

I think Microsoft are trying to get more users over to Windows even if they have to offer it free, throw in those that don't like to change and are happy with their older Operating Systems, also those happy with OS X,Linux etc and you see it's not clear cut and dry for Microsoft.

I think this thread desperately needs to be moderated. Some people in here are taking things to the extreme when they really need to be taken with a pinch of salt. I came in here to have a look at the latest info on the RTM for Windows 10 and have had to navigate through a load of rubbish, intentionally created arguments from spoffle and Skeeter. Honestly guys, give it a rest. Everyone else can take what Rroff and Deuse have said at face value. I can't believe you pull out the dictionary definition of what menu means. Every Windows user knows that the Start Menu is an iconic element of Windows, and that Windows 8 effectively removed this for their new Metro interface. As far as Windows goes, the abomination in Windows 8 is NOT a start menu, so stop trying to pick an argument when you know exactly what he means!

Which means you've completely missed the point of what I've said

Sigh... really you couldn't see I was being flippant after people used the same type of approach against me?

Oh I know exactly what you were getting at, I just think its hilarious that you said it.

The discussion was about Tiles, which exist on Start Screens, Start Menus and Phone displays. Whether a Screen is a Menu is utterly unrelated. I don't know why Rroff tried to take the stance that his issues only related to the Windows 10 Start Menu when its a design language that's been used across multiple UI elements for many years. In fact the point that its in use across multiple UI formats is the exact reason it is the way it is.

The Windows 10 Start Menu is formatted the way it is because of the Windows 8.1/10 Start Screen and Windows Phone 8.1/10. To ignore the latter 2 in order to have a rant about the format of the former is rather odd.

Exactly

If we are still limiting the conversation so the tile width thing (which wasn't intended to be taken in isolation) - my complaint is in no way relevant to Windows 8 as it doesn't have the traditional start menu which is where the problem manifest itself regardless of how you want to define a menu but also previous builds of 10 didn't have the same limitation (if you import a user profile from sub 1004x or something around there you can get 4 tiles wide but if you make a new user it limits to 3) which is why I'm complaining about it now - it seems to be an intentional limit (probably due to WP as you said) and I'm far from alone in complaining about it but the word from MS so far doesn't seem to be positive about it ever coming back.

Which comes back to one of my original points - why would I move from Windows 7 which is fully functional as a desktop OS to Windows 10 which has some constraints as a desktop OS due to considerations in supporting Windows Phone due to the fact they haven't managed to build enough flexibility into the design to cater fully for the strengths of the individual platforms - which is something we should be seeing as a far more fundamental aspect of the design rather than being tagged on later hence my concerns over the design direction.

Same here. I only have windows for games and Linux for everything else Watch\3D printer\TV\Nas\Humax box ect.

Loads of members stopped posting in the motorsport section because of you. Now you're doing it here.

If you read from this morning you would get it. But you won't as you're an argumentative person. Time for you to grow up.

It'd be so easy to just answer, yet still nothing.

No it's you who can't read. Your not very bright, but you're a lovely little boy :)

You must always read a thread from were you left off or you can make mistakes :)

Anyway...back on topic.(this section is getting as bad as the motorsport section)

lol I was about to post careful you'll have spoffle picking up on some totally irrelevant point or failing that your spelling or grammar to score imaginary internet points... but looks like he beat me to it.

EDIT: CHokKA is right though with people deliberately starting arguments over things that totally don't matter or from angles things blatantly weren't meant for which reason I'm out - I wasn't calling anyone stupid before but this thread is rapidly descending into stupid.

I didn't miss anything. Your posts are so tedious that I actually just glossed right over them. Honestly, I don't know why you keep banging away but you trying to put your point across is tiresome. I'm beginning to see that you're actually just a troll on this forum. You've never really got anything useful to add to the conversation, you just post stuff to wind people up. My Trusteer post in here a few weeks ago is the perfect example of you being ridiculous for the sake of it.

Still no answer.

Still no answer to what? I think it's painfully obvious that he was indicating that upgrading from Windows 8 Home to 8.1 Pro WASN'T free, but yet you can't seem to apply common sense and fill in the blanks yourself, so you're just posting up the same tired rubbish, tainting this thread with a load of posts that simply don't need to be in here. Honestly, stop being a child and grow up!
