Got Xbox One to W10 Streaming setup now that's it open to everyone and not just the insiders. Really impressed with it, quality is not as good as direct to screen but it's close, even at low stream setting it looks ok. Didn't notice any lag, even FPS are playable. Really does work well.

W10 is da bomb.

I signed up to the insider a few weeks back but dont have the option to upgrade to it via windows updates. Guess i will have to wait for the main release

A friend has done this 10 update the right way.
He had 8.1 basic paid £20 for the 8.1 Pro upgrade. He has now bought the windows 8.1 enterprise upgrade key very cheap.

This is the right way to go in my opinion.

The Insider programme doesn't upgrade via Windows Update. You have to run the installer to install Windows 10, either from USB stick or otherwise.

Windows 8.1 Enterprise isn't getting the free upgrade...

Noticed that key sites like G2A sell windows pro 8.1 keys for around £20, I've bought games from them and never had a problem so what are the chances of buying one of these keys and being able to update to Windows 10 and not have any problems?

Wouldn't trust it incase the key gets blacklisted somewhere down the line. May not matter once Win 10 is out but might if you need to reinstall and have to do Win 8.1 first.

You can get a retail boxed version for £50 if you look around.

I know what you're saying but at under £20 and I could do with 3
, the temptation is great!!!! Does it matter that the seller has 100% and 1000's of successful transactions? Also these keys are OEM's

What codecs are people using with win10, I have some old avi and flv style movie files that will not play under the base install, so what are people using to adjunct the basic installation?

So basically, to get free Windows 10 without upgrading from a previous Windows version, you need to have been a Windows 10 insider, remain on the insider program and accept the earliest of updates.

So you will be a poor Guinea Pig, or a God on the bleeding edge, depending on your outlook.

Yep. Just like you could run beta versions of Windows 10 for free leading up to the release, you will be able to after the release too. But only if you run beta builds and use an Insider Program registered account. The install will be activated using a 'Preview License' rather than a proper license.

From previous versions of Windows? I don't think so.

Yeah it did. You downloaded a little patch that enabled Windows 10 Preview to be installed over 7 or 8.1 from within Windows Update. I did it to one of my PC's last week.

Its now been disabled as Microsoft have temporarily closed new entry to the Insider Program while they prepare for release.

I did a clean install of 10240 and activated it using the method I posted above. I have an option to opt out of Insider builds ? Does this mean it will be a normal Win 10 install if that makes sense. I opted out and it all seems just like a stock install of Win 10. Will it remain activated after the 29th ?

No idea if that makes sense tbh ?
