Windows 10

I have that problem. Rather annoyed. I take out graphic card and use onboard Intel graphic card and Windows 10 install sucessful then put the graphic card back in and all went ok.
updated via windows update and then went to device manger and clicked update and then chose the install folder for the newer drivers and they seemed to install

How do I get a valid license ? My Laptop had 8.1 installed and I registered for the insider program when it first came out and have tried a few builds. I had the little flag in 8.1 on the task bar.

Will I need to re-install it back to 8.1 and update on the 29th ?

Either enter a purchased 10 key or yes you will need to go back to 8.1 and update to 10.

I tried to install the preview, but it asked for drivers right at the beginning, and I didn't get any further. I'm guessing this could have been for the NVidia RAID array, has anyone had this ? I'll probably need to disable the array.

I had something similar with Intel RAID. Even if you've only got one disk, if it's running under RAID mode in the BIOS, you will need to supply a disk/usb with the RAID drivers. If you don't you can get weird things happening.

With a Win 7 re-install from scratch I did recently, the install could see the drives and do an install, only to fail at the end saying it couldn't run Windows on the hardware. It needed the RAID drivers at the beginning to complete the install successfully.

The final version of Windows 10 won't have a "key logger".

As far as we know you are correct. But I've not seen the Windows 10 privacy policy so I can't say.

I just don't like MS installing what they want, when they want on a PC I own.
I've tested the hack for the key logger opps I mean collecting what you say and type :) and it works(so far)

I can see many problems with this auto updates in a few months time.
Say your installed software is working great, then MS gives you a forced update and it breaks things.

Will they(MS) fix it or make the software company fix it? will you be able to uninstall said updates?
I will wait 10 months before I look at it again.

Odd, Vista installed perfectly with the RAID array in place without asking for any drivers. Anyway, I'll get rid of the array and see what happens.

Hi there

I've just installed Windows 10 RTM on a spare SSD and it's working all fine.

I did not enter any windows key and just pressed skip to get the install going.

I have done the reserve windows 10 update procedure prior to doing this (weeks ago).

Is it OK to enter my retail windows 8.1 pro key now?

EDIT

Tried my retail 8.1 Pro key and it does not like it. Guess I will have to wait for the normal upgrade route and the end of the month.

Your Windows 8.1 key will not work. You need to upgrade from within 8.1 for it to activate.

Once you have done the upgrade from 8.1 you can then clean install in the same hardware, or use the Reset PC option in 10 to get a clean install. Not that it will be worth it if you've come from a fresh 8.1 anyway, just use Disk Cleanup and use the Remove previous versions of Windows option.

That's interesting. That does suggest that if you upgrade Retail 7 or 8.1 to 10 to can then transfer the 10 license around as well as the 7 or 8.1 under it.

Good news if so. It must mean your 10 upgrade is linked to your key as we as your hardware hash, and the hash doesn't apply if it's a retail key maybe?

Just a heads up for Gigabyte X99 motherboard owners...

There appears to be a few Windows 10 Intel drivers available on the Gigabyte site, released in the last few days. ;)
