Windows 10

I did a clean install of 10240 and activated it using the method I posted above. I have an option to opt out of Insider builds ? Does this mean it will be a normal Win 10 install if that makes sense. I opted out and it all seems just like a stock install of Win 10. Will it remain activated after the 29th ?

No idea if that makes sense tbh ?

No. After the 29th it will start asking you for a key for a valid 10 license, and then after a while it will deactivate and eventually stop booting.

This is how the Insider Program will work from now on. You can either enter a valid license into your install and be on the standard public build, or select to be in the Insider Program and not enter a license but have to stay on beta builds.

I signed up to the insider a few weeks back but dont have the option to upgrade to it via windows updates. Guess i will have to wait for the main release

U should have it by now! I create a new account insider program and registered it and within 24 hours got 10240 fast ring updated from it. Please note u need to download old build preview windows 10 on your pc. As it's won't work on Windows 7, 8.1 until the July 29th afterwards to get free upgrade.

Yeah it did. You downloaded a little patch that enabled Windows 10 Preview to be installed over 7 or 8.1 from within Windows Update. I did it to one of my PC's last week.

Its now been disabled as Microsoft have temporarily closed new entry to the Insider Program while they prepare for release.

Really? I thought it always installed on previous versions through the installer, either from within Windows or from boot.

How do I get a valid license ? My Laptop had 8.1 installed and I registered for the insider program when it first came out and have tried a few builds. I had the little flag in 8.1 on the task bar.

Will I need to re-install it back to 8.1 and update on the 29th ?

Disable Automatic Updates Windows 10 Professional & Enterprise via gpedit.msc:

Automatic Updates (Okay, the gpedit doesn't let you totally disable, but you can set to only notify you before downloading/installing):

Just run (winkey+r): "gpedit.msc" (doesn't need quotes)

If he has 8 and 8.1, he qualifies for the free upgrade?

As said him like many others hate having a key logger installed and letting MS see what you're seeing and doing.

I myself have privacy concerns and won't install 10 on my main pc. I only use windows for games anyway.
In fact windows is the odd one out in my place as everything else is Linux based TV\Nas\Humax\Router\3d printer\phone ect.

fair point! windows 10 is more controlled by microsoft and it does have our privacy concerns.

The final version of Windows 10 won't have a "key logger".

God knows how many times people need to have this explained.

On topic, I have been very impressed with the Xbox game streaming. I have noticed a slight loss of quality but to work so well straight off is impressive IMO.
