Windows 10

Build 10240 = RTM.

I'm pretty sure you do 'need' the security patches Microsoft will be releasing...

The pushback on the automatic updates is coming from people making a massive thing out of nothing. Do they think Microsoft will willingly push out updates that brake every install over night?

Do all these people have Android 1.5, iOS 1, and only ever play launch titles on their consoles as they refuse to take any updates? Actually they are probably PC gamers... playing using the drivers that came on a CD with their graphics card only, on Windows 7 RTM (non of that new fangled SP1 rubbish), using only ever the base release of any game.

Progress is bad, mmkay. Microsoft are going to brake over half the worlds computers without testing anything, mmkay.

Auto updates are a brilliant idea, because it means the 99% of all users out there who dont know what Windows Update is and haven't ever installed a patch will be have much safer machines.

having it as the default setting is fine but there needs to be choice
and not just "delay the update for a few days"
its pretty arrogant to try and tell people how they should be using their computer, which is part of the reason forcing metro on people didnt work out so well for them

if microsoft doesnt provide a super easy way to turn off all updates a 3rd party app will, just like the start menu and classicshell with windows 8

and rly....they will just get a lot of bad feeling for it

You can delay updates for 3 months.

And its not about telling people how they should be using their computer at all. 99% of Windows Updates are bug fixes and security patches.

Nobody is forcing you to do anything. Stop being so dramatic.

Agree.
No one other then MS knows what they will install on your PC.
Unless they change the auto rebooting I can see that being another problem.

You can just block the update exe with a fire wall, and then go to a win 10 update Repository and install what YOU want.
Last night on mIRC they already done a cut down version for gamers :D

^^^^ Having issues with the clean 10240 install (not activating for known reasons) I then on that clean drive installed 8.1 and activated it with my key. All went as expected and then updated to the 10240 build and that is also now activated.

I did see a Window where it told me I had one month to decide whether I wanted to return back to 8.1. I assume after that my 8.1 key will become a 10 key.

I suppose so, still when I have my system running stable and how I want it I don't want Microsoft force feeding me updates I might not need or want which could potentially break things that were previously running fine.

Having tried again the latest release of Windows 10 I just cannot get used to it, it looks horrible and just doesn't feel right. For me Windows 7 was perfect, Windows 8 terrible, Windows 8.1 was a lot more better, Windows 10 just terrible.

The only thing that interests me with Windows 10 is DirectX 12, but I doubt that will be of any use for a few more years to come so I am going to skip Windows 10. It looks like it was designed by a group of teenagers or something, it's completely anti productive in terms of useability. I always envisioned a Windows 9 that looked more like Windows 7 but with greater performance etc.

Yeah good luck with that.....you will be force to use Windows 10 unless you moved to another OS and if you want PC gaming then you won't be sticking to Windows 7 for very long.

haha nice
yeh im not sure if microsoft will give in eventually or not
its pretty dumb
if some people really dont like it they will either not use it or use a work around

we can be just as stubborn as them :)

Is the xbox one streaming to the xbox app going to be something that is in the Windows 10 launch? Or a feature that'll be patched in later on, anyone know for sure?

I think someone was using it already in build 10240

edit, just found this from another user

Got Xbox One to W10 Streaming setup now that's it open to everyone and not just the insiders. Really impressed with it, quality is not as good as direct to screen but it's close, even at low stream setting it looks ok. Didn't notice any lag, even FPS are playable. Really does work well.

W10 is da bomb.

Think I'm going to take a chance and buy 3 x Windows 8.1 Professional Global OEM keys on G2A from a seller with 100% and 1000's of transactions. I'm going to need an ISO, does anyone know where I can get one?

Also I take it that I should use G2A Shield, pay 20% vat and pay via Paypal for maximum protection?

My intention it to install bare bones windows 8.1 on each machine to claim free 10 upgrade then on release upgrade to 10. Once I have 10 I'll do a clean install of 10 on all machines and continue from there, does this sound good?

you can download the windows 8.1 ISO using Microsofts tool. can create a USB stick with it as well so quite handy

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

your method should be fine for installing W10

So correct me if I am wrong, but if you upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 your 8.1 key is still in use correct? If that makes any sense?

Anyone know than answer the myself and Vimes at all? :)

MS have disabled new activations until the 29th.

Yes. You can't run an 8.1 and a 10 install separately at the same time. Its an Upgrade not a free version of Windows 10.

Just purchased a key and tried the link but it tells me

"This product key cannot be used to install a retail version of Windows 8.1"

Is this because it's a dodgy key or an OEM?

If it's becuase it's an OEM key (which it is) is there another way of checking the key's legit and downloading a compatible ISO?

Think you need retail keys which you can also buy on key sites etc :)
