Windows 10

Oh good, I feel a reinstall coming on if that is the case now! When I first got Preview, I read that you would get the final upgrade and not have to revert or reinstall.

Well don't quote me as the gospel, it's just what I heard. I was hoping that your version was true but I removed 10240 from laptop and am just installing 8.1 again at the moment whilst downloading the iso on my desktop. I've probably just gone the longest way possible haha

I'm trying ESD method but I get:-

ERROR: Decryption failed. None of the known/specified RSA key works.

You need the new RSA key. Edit the batch file and replace the Crypto RSA key with this one.

I just ran the Media Creation tool which failed at the end and i now have both a $Windows.~BT (2.6gb) and a $Windows.~WS (5.8gb) folder. Both have only a Sources folder inside.

My GS70 (Windows 7) starting to push through the download last night after faffing around with installing all of the optional Windows Updates and downloaded about 2.9GB's worth of data which then equaled to just under 6GB according to the $Windows .BT~ folder.

I didn't get the chance to install it last night for when midnight came about but I'm going to give it a go later on after work... fingers crossed lol.

Liam.

I tried twice at both points when asking but said my key was not valid so thought I would skip them both then enter it once installed but W10 was already activated so didn't bother.

I even removed the partition and created everything from new when I did my clean install

Just installed Windows 10 via the same method, created a USB formatted my drive and begun a complete fresh install at both stages I skipped the activation code as my Win 7 code isn't accepted after checking in Start > Settings > Update & Security my Windows is not activated.

Although all windows updates etc are downloading! Will keep an eye out on this thread to see if people get the same issue and resolve it.

(hoping I just receive a code via email as I have installed before my update was ready)

Edit: I locked up whilst only being able to see a black screen and my cursor now when I boot I go past the Bios screen to a constant black screen.. Uh oh!

ERROR: Decryption failed. None of the known/specfied RSA key works.

Errors were reported during ESD decryption.

Suicide is an option if this doesn't work sometime soon.

EDIT: just needed a more recent version of the ESD decrypter. Nearly done now.

got the same problem what version did you use am on 4.7

Windows 7 pro here and my $Windows bt folder is 5.96Gb it downloaded last night so i turned it off and this morning nothing is happening, on the start menu its got the install update and restart icon so i do that but nothing installs when it shuts down and it says it when it reboots as well on the start menu. but no updates have failed but nothing is happening

Updated via the media tool and deleted everything. It was very quick and painless, all my drivers were already installed to my surprise except for my Xonar DX. I thought my GPU drivers were going to cause trouble but seems not :p. Now I'm slightly late for work... That's what I get for deciding to upgrade in the morning!

Goodbye Win 7 Pro, you did the job brilliantly for these past years.

it uses your windows 7 key and hardware to be tagged which is done via the W7 to W10 update.

at both stages the install didn't except my key but was activated once on the desktop for the first time.

check to see if its already activated as mine was and I didn't have to do anything

I don't for the life of me understanding why Microsoft is still arsing about with keys and activation when they're giving the software away for free. They really do have all the common sense of a plank of wood.

They're not giving it away for free though.

They're trying to get as many people as possible, who've already purchased a legal version of Windows 7/8/8.1, onto 10, in the first year. After that it's the same as always.

For a lot of people this is only free for a year so will still need to be licensed there after
