Windows 10

I had to do a complete reinstall on my work pc to fix the broken start menu.

Seems to be ok now. This notification icon can't be removed from the taskbar, only disabled. Why do they do things like that?

Its also annoying that you when pin something to the start menu it pins it as a tile and not as a start menu item, i then have to drag and drop the icon and unpin the stupid tile.

Turns out there is a windows update that fixed the malformed fonts.

Wasted time reinstalling windows. Well at least i have a fresh install.

New problem is can not change colour of start menu. Annoying.

The window close animation is much worse.

I can't believe of all the things that has been requested in feedback they create a stupid new window close animation. Its like why bother making feedback if this is all they can come up with.

I don't have much confidence that other than the old style start menu that they will implement any changes that are not annoying.

Yes because the window close is all they did

My PC prompted me earlier for a restart, and delayed it until after I'd finished work.

Restarted, and it went through the update, then dumped me at a blank desktop, with none of my programs installed!

Did a restart, and it then reverted back to build 9841 (with everything in tact) - I was *this* close to throwing the Windows Home Server restore CD in and restoring it to this morning's backup...

Well they didn't do much else. Action center was beyond useless, it was annoying and useless at the same time. Now they have added a new notification panel. Not sure why anyone need notifications on a desktop pc. I find the windows 10 notifications pointless as well. Keeps telling me that i have new programs to open files when i don't. Outlook already has notifications that work fine.

I actually disable the security center service and action center, always have, waste of time.

Also looks like i have to uninstall the default "apps" after every build change.

I had no problems with the windows 7 animations coming from windows xp but that new window open and close animation s just too distracting for me and i was forced to disable all animations as couldn't pin point which one was the new one.

I am yet to find any improvements in the new build that I like/will use. They didn't even fix the alt+tab problem, where sometimes it doesn't change window and just flashes up. One new problem i noticed was that start button no longer activates at the bottom left screen, you have to be just off the bottom left in order to activate it. I think that is annoying because usually ill just flick my mouse in to the corner and it activates, now i have to aim directly on to it.

Good to know this could be a problem for me;)

I was thinking of installing WMC as well.=, now I think I`ll wait a little longer...:p

It's deffo because I installed WMC.
Sees it as a Windows 8 preview build.

I still firmly think this W10 is/was just a Windows 8 update.

I don't have that, works fine for me weirdly. I can appreciate that would be annoying!

Probably a silly question but what are people doing in terms of drivers? Are the bundled ones fine for performance and gaming or is there some hidden server somewhere with W10 versions of them? :p

I've got classic shell installed and i notice if I click on the shell icon, I get classic, but slightly to the left I get the new Windows menu

May be some incompatibility with classic shell but I'll just throw it out there

So far:

- I ended up installing older nV drivers because ToastyX wouldn't find the SLI limit for some reason on the latest WHQLs. Might be a general issue with the ToastyX.
- Monitor overscans in 120hz mode and I'm not sure how to resize it (didn't do this before but probably my config)
- Xonar DG's setup.exe won't work, but you can just install the .inf
- IAStor doesn't want to work at the moment
- Neither does aquasuite (clicking on controllers or fans and it crashes; service won't stay running)
- The driver for my Qnix is unsigned. Same as W8, you need to go through advanced startup to install them (Shift+Restart) which is a massive faff

I did take the upgrade path so most drivers were brought across. It seems everything is working fine otherwise. I have 1 USB device shown that isn't recognised in device man (Aquaero) and that's it.

Anyone sussed a way to change the background colour of your profile picture (ie, where you would type your password in when you sign in)
