Windows 10

Microsoft have gone rather off track with their kernel numbers starting with Windows 7:

4.0 - NT 4
5.0 - NT 5 / 2000
5.1 - XP
6.0 - Vista
6.1 - 7
6.2 - 8
?.? - 10

What the hell will 10's kernel be? :p

Same as Windows 8.1 you can turn that off, change how it looks so that active icons only display, etc.

M.

I have multiple monitors on my main PC and it's running Windows 8.1 - It does this. If your asking if it's new for Windows 10, it's not.

Cheers guys, I managed to work it out.

Still interested if anyone has got CPU-Z working? I have a new CPU arriving tomorrow and I need to see the voltage.

Makes sense to me.

Not sure on the NT4 side but XP was the NT5 kernel with improvements.

There was a big change in the way drivers we're handled in vista hence the big version jump then 7/8 have been the same Base with tweaks/bug fixes etc.

I expect 10 to be 6.3

Well, I've had all sorts of problems with the Internet. It hasn't been I've not been connected - various applications worked fine such as my online backup program - but browsing. Browsers would sometimes connect, in their own time, or maybe not and it wasn't that less used sites were harder to connect to - the BBC didn't work sometimes too.

So for now I've gone back to Windows 7 and I'll wait and see if a more stable version comes along later. I don't like & any more and much prefer the look and feel of Windows 10 so I hope a better version comes soon.

How's web browsing on the new build? I gave up on Windows 10 as it was so unreliable but I really don't like the look of Windows 7 now so would like get back to the preview if it works

Updating to a new build is a bit of a hassle as it resets a lot of settings back to defaults. I have to uninstall all the apps i don't want, disable all the services and scheduled tasks again as well as reinstall some software. Most software remains installed though while some of them stay installed but lose the start menu entries.

It seems a bit snappier moving between windows as well as browsing in firefox seems slightly faster but may just be seeing things. Its difficult to pin point if it is faster, it does seem that way though.
