Windows 10

Ok, guys, I'm in need of some advice here. this is the background.

I had fibre broadband installed a couple of months ago and get some 16Gbs up and around 70Gbs down. This has been very good and very reliable (Plusnet if you are asking). I mention this first as it affects my problems. We share the household connection via the Plusnet supplied router and a separate switch for wired connection to the machines in the house. Everyone else in the house is using Windows 7 and it works fine and browsing is fast.

When I installed Windows 10 on my machine originally the browsing was a bit slow but work pretty well but I noticed that IE was less good that other browsers and would often give up trying to connect and suggest checking the connections (whilst Chrome would connect a lot better) I gave up on it last week and put Windows 7 back on my machine and Windows 10 on an old laptop to try out.

Today I am up to Build 9879 on the laptop and I have all the same problems - IE gives up and Chrome, in the main connects, sometimes with a bit of delay. The connection settings in 10 and 7 are exactly the same. I know that others don't have this problem.

Any ideas what might be wrong? Could it be to do with the routers - I have a BT router and a Plusnet router for the fibre, though the Plusnet router is the DCHP server for the network.

Do you look to upgrade the network drivers?

For the key you have to get the key again and input in to the key field and activate it.

One problem they still have not fixed, does anyone else have the problem? i have 8 sata drives and under this pc in explorer they all show up but in the tree structure on the left only two drives show up at the top level.

I am getting this annoying error when trying to teamviewer in to my home pc from work.

"The screen cannot be captured at the moment. this is probably due to fast user switching or a disconnnected/minimized remote desktop session"

Some sort of RDP/UNC bs from windows 10 default configuration.

Also noticed that the key repeat has increased sensitivity. If you press a key for a very short amount of time it quickly repeats itself when in previous versions it would not be so sensitive. Difficult to explain just noticed a few times when i hold down a key for a bit too long it made a lllllllllllllllllong list of letter like that. Probably some sort of touch optimization.

anyone been able to run simcity on windows 10? game worked for me on 8 but not on 10, so I formated it because i didnt wanna have issues with other things not working..

Got a new SSD today so bunged this on. It's very very good, I think the time has come to finally let Windows 7 pass on.

My biggest gripe so far is the method they use to deliver the major Technical Preview updates, instead of WU like common sense would dictate it's instead done through some crappy little Metro app that doesn't really tell you anything about what's downloading, how big it is, how long it will take, etc.

But that's nit picking at best.

There's a conventional desktop one as well.

I was initially concerned about in-place upgrade not preserving app/data/settings but it seems MS have thought this one through: http://blogs.windows.com/business/2014/10/28/windows-10-making-deployment-easier/

That's me sorted then :D

Edit*
Someone will no doubt go on about doing a fresh install, don't! My system is well maintained to the point it's like a fresh install every day and will always be like this. I have many apps with settings and data I really can't be dealing with re-installing and configuring hence the need to in-place upgrade.

I'll do a fresh install, I always have, why break the habit of a lifetime, while the idea is good I cant see them having tested every configuration and every option.
I would rather have the system fresh and clean and then put stuff on it rather than the chance of bringing something over from an old install that'll cause issues..

70...Gigabits?

edit: Never mind, I need to learn to be a little more observant.

OK, So I have a question - What's the consensus on Microsoft offering a one stop shop for drivers, software etc.? They've been bandying it about unofficially since windows 7, and while I'm not opposed to it, I know that getting Windows certified for anything from Drivers to games on the Xbox is nothing less than a pain in the rectum.

Pros - Stable, accountable apps through the store that are guaranteed to be virus and adware free - it'll certainly make my life easier every time a relative or friend that's about as computer literate as a seaslug needs to have their pc reformatted as everything they use would, theoretically be there.
Cons - It'd slow development down on apps like a mofo.

If Microsoft is going to be a one stop shop its going to have to make itself more up to date. Keeping up with graphics drivers will need some doing.

Yeah, AMD and Nvidia have both really picked up the ball with that lately - if they do, it might be an idea for them to allow you to select a level (i.e. stable, enthusiast etc.) to dictate whether they should subscribe you to a beta stream for your apps and drivers.

Windows 10 is really just a refreshed Windows 7 under the hood, plus of course adding the bits in from W8/8.1.

Windows 10 is no faster than 7 or 8 - it may seem like it is because you're used to your previous W7 or W8 install that became bloated over time. Plus, the current preview doesn't contain everything that will be in the final release.

lol...Just like 7 was a refreshed vista? No. Having been in the programming field, you have no idea how much that claim ****es me off.

Do you have any empirical data, or is it all conjecture at this point?

Has anybody got the link to download the latest version of win 10, which I thinks is 9879. Had it running running on virtual box and run into problems so i took it off. Thanks
